Barclays Tax Beater Cash ISA - experiences so far (merged)

Just had an e-mailed response from Barclays in response to my complaint of yesterday.
"For us to be able to progress with your complaint could you please contact us again providing us with the following information:
Your full postal address, as held on our records please."
You what??? My address as held on THEIR records. They've already got my sort code and full name (which is pretty unusual). So why do I need to tell them the details again?
Still, to continue with this farce I've sent them what they asked for. I wonder what ludicrous information request I'll get tomorrow....
I refused to e-mail my postal address to them, I think you should always be cautious replying with personal information to your bank via e-mails, you never know who's 'watching'.
I still got the reply, 'we are looking into your complaint'.
p.s. Does anyone know the ISA office address? Can't find it on website? Might put something in writing too0 -
good morning all
Went into local branch today to enquire whats happening about our ISA's. ISA application forms accepted in branch on 29th March. They could offer no advice other than to wait another week.
Claimed they are currently processing 10,000 applications !0 -
Hello all
I have contacted Barclays to ask what is happening to their ISA applications and they have sent me this response:
"The Barclays tax beater cash ISA has seen unprecedented levels of interest from consumers. In light of this a small number of applications have taken slightly longer to be processed and interest will be backdated to the day the application form was handed into the branch to ensure customers are not disadvantaged.
All 2006/07 applications have now been processed so customers will be hearing from us shortly. If customers applied for an ISA for 07/08 tax year they will receive confirmation by mid-May."

Thanks for the update Wendy.
However, if it is going to take until mid May to open the accounts for this tax year, then I sincerely hope they don't backdate the interest. I sent them a nominal amount and wanted to top up as soon as possible to gain the full 1 year at 6.5%. If they backdate the opening of the account, we would lose out on a month's worth or more of interest at the higher rate!0 -

I couldn't agree more!!0 -
How do they figure just "a small number of applications have taken slightly longer to be processed ..." when in the same sentence they say [presumably all?] people who applied for the 07/08 account should have confirmation by MID-MAY!! That is clearly a whole month longer than i think should be reasonably expected, not "slightly longer" and I'm sure the number of people who applied for 07/08 is not "small"!
I wish i could just get my money out... it is really annoying me having to mentally subtract £1200 from my current account balance every time I look at it! Curse you Barclays!0 -
I took our forms into our local branch on 2nd April and my ISA was setup on the 11th April, money was transfered from my other Barclays account, my husband's cheque has been cashed today although I don't see the account online yet. So maybe things are looking up0

Mortgage free: When i'm 39 / Sept 2023

Hi all
I'm going to apply for one of the above for my 2007-8 allowance. Has anyone applied for one recently and, if so, was the experience OK? How long did it take etc?
TIA
Suze
Suze,
Me and My husband filled in the online form and took our documents to a local branch in Newquay. We had no trouble at all in buying the ISAs. We are not existing customers of Barclays, so I had to write out cheques to them. However, my husband doesnt have a chequbook account with any banks and I thought this would be a problem. But no, all I had to do was write out the cheque to him, and then he endorsed the back. The only drawback, of which I am fully aware, is it will take a couple of weeks to be processed due to high demand.
Total time spent in bank = less than 10 minutes. :T :T
We then went onto local cafe for late breakfast and enjoyed the rest of the sunny day in the pub together!!!
