Help with road tax!

When I was at the 2 dealerships which I worked for, we could not sell a car and allow it to be driven off our premises without tax. I think you will find that a dealer can be prosecuted for doing so. At the same time of course, it is the driver's responsibility to ensure the car he is driving is both taxed and insured.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Rubbish! So the dealer/seller sells a car with tax & MOT and the buyer drives it away without insurance. Should the dealer/seller still have not sold it? It's not their problem.
Jesus! Read what I said again!!! It is equally the DRIVER'S responsibility to ensure the car is taxed and insured. And I don't know what you are on about "So the dealer/seller sells a car with tax & MOT...". In this case the dealer/seller didn't!!!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. Jesus! It is TOTALLY 100% the buyers responsibility to ensure they drive the car away legally. Nothing to do with the seller/dealer. I have dealt in used cars for 20 years, if someone buys it untaxed (which will be reflected in the price) then that's fine, but I will tax at cost (if required) nothing to do with me nor my choice, paperwork completed and signed for, buyers problem the moment they drive away.0 -

Ha! Typical used car dealer attitude!! So in cases like the OP's where the car has probably been sitting around on the lot untaxed for sometime, it's the buyer who has to have the grief when he comes to try and tax it is it?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. I bought a car last weekend. No tax on it which I knew so I sorted it out when I got home. No way would I expect a dealer to supply a cheap car with tax unless specifically requested. Sometimes the tax can be worth 50% of the car's value! Can I help?0 -

The buyer/new keeper goes down Post Office with V5C2, MOT & Insurance..pays £££ = new tax disc, or pays dealer to tax for them...simple. What's the problem?0 -

its called the real world
not some ideal world you seem to live in
have you ever bought a second hand car?
if you have then you will be aware that advertising always come down to competitive pricing so road tax isnt factored into the price unless its already on the screen
and what you obviously arent aware of so i will explain vehicle tax is commensurate with vehicle emissions so where you are thinking probably £30 a year in your bubble world the real world price might be nearer £250 if punter chooses unwisely
please by all means give input to the forum but lets keep it real world0
