You need to go to a Post Office that issues vehicle licences, with the MOT certificate, insurance certificate, the green 'New Keeper Supplement' part of the V5C, and the necessary fee.

The Post Office will have a form 'V10' (Application for a Tax Disc)

Fill in the form and give it to the clerk with the other documents and the fee, they will give you the licence.

You don't need to back date it because you have just bought the vehicle (I don't think the Post Office can issue back dated licences)

    no need for v10
    otherwise good post
back tax discs arent given anymore anywhere its a standard fine letter pops through the old hole in the door to recorded keeper

Still say OP should get the seller to sort it out. Their responsibility, not the OP's.

I've only ever bought tax discs in the Post Office (never online). I like the fact they give you your disc there and then so no stress over it arriving in time, getting lost in the post, etc. Easy peasy.

Yes under normal 're-newing' circumstances when there isn't a significant gap between discs.

    Hi guys thanks!

Just went to post office with all docs, and it took about 3 minutes and I got a tax disc :)

I don't know what will happen with regards to if I'll be auto fined or what not, but I'm just happy now everything is road legal :)

If you are, pass it on to the seller.

    why?
    trade sells cars
    tax authorities collect taxes
im sure selling dealer would have arranged to tax if buyer willing to pay ,i do but im not a charity either so if punter wants to drive home untaxed and get pulled its their responsibility as it quite clearly says on my invoices tax available at cost

Not sure it's legal for a dealer to release a car which isn't road-legal... that's why.

Unroadworthy in terms of condition, yes. Untaxed, no, but unethical. At the very least, they should charge you the money for them to tax it providing you give them the insurance certificate to do so.

I was worried about previous posts too, but it seems the OP has things sorted, which is good news. Don't worry about any fines as you won't get any. You haven't done anything wrong. You are legally displaying the disc, the car IS taxed (even if the police computers haven't quite updated yet) and you have insurance and MOT. The very worst that could happen is that the police ANPR may flag you up as untaxed, but once they see your valid disc and understand the circumstances, they'll wave you on your way.
