Perhaps the local branch was trying to steer Gaffy towards their account transfer service. They can arrange to transfer DDs, but they can't set up new ones.

    Which 0800 have you tried ? There's 2 !

The two nos. on this thread are:

    0800 015 0162

    0800 015 4000

which is currently the "best" one to call?

Given that they're that bright at your local LTSB, I'd check in a few days that the 4% Vantage offer has actually been applied. Where do they get these people from?

They told me that the offer is only for people who use LTSB as their main account. I confirmed as she wouldn't apply the 'token' otherwise. It is my main bill paying account (well, apart from the other bill paying accounts at Halifax and Nationwide).

It's quite ridiculous. No wonder that the banking sector is in such disarray.

Clue 1: try either, or both, numbers. They only cost your time if you call from a landline.

Clue 2: use the number(s) that people reported they used to get on the 4% offer.

I used 0800 015 0162 yesterday. I got that from this thread a few days ago.

Anyone getting asked whether this account is their "main" account should ask back where in the published terms Lloyds state that it has to be "your main account".

There's nowhere that says so. May be take a printout of the Vantage offer with you if you go into a Branch to get the 4%. Or just do it on "that 0800 number".....

With all due respect, to some extent the banks and their employees can only get away with it because Joe Public lets them.

Or even better, ask them to define what exactly "main account" actually means.

    Very helpful innovate (not).

If there's a 3rd number, why not either include in yourpost or... well (to put it politely) not bother to post!

I tried both numbers earlier and got the previously reported 'unavailable' message on each.

Talking of phone problems, I've just opened a Tesco saver to set up DDs, and remembered why I closed my Tesco account a couple of years back. What a nightmare! 42 minute wait time to call the help desk to get a temp security number that then has to be posted....
