How easy is it to create a second Vantage account? Can I do it from online banking without a credit check? I see myself setting up another 2 DDs shortly, and it seems a waste to set them up on the existing account if I can get another 4% on 6K by applying them on a new one.

There is an option to "Apply for an additional Classic Account " at the bottom of their current accounts page (http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/classic_and_classic_plus_accounts.asp).

It's several years since I applied for mine but I remember the first 2 were very easy. For the 3rd, I had to go into a Branch but I think some people managed to get it done on the phone.

(I know I can have 3, but thats just seems greedy)
The only one losing out if you don't have 3 is yourself
  • They seem to vary whether you can set up extra accounts online or not. I couldn't with my third (in 2010) but a phone call did it easily and it was easier to specify no debit card or cheque book for it, whereas, even though I asked for the debit card on the second account to be cancelled, it didn't stop a new one coming sometime later which I again had to cancel.

Thanks for the advice. Will get on with opening the Tesco Accounts.

Already got a Standing Order set on the Vantage accounts to move the £1k between the accounts to statisfy the terms for the 3% anyway and I syphon off the interest at the beginning of the month, it was just the Direct Debits that was causing me the head scratching.
  • we have 2 joint accounts - so I assume that means we could either both apply for another 1 joint or 2 single ones. I have applied for one online today - so will see if that comes through
Typically confused and asking for advice

How long does it take for heaven's sake, for the small payments from Paypal to reach my accounts? I set one Vantage account on 12/09/12 and the other on 14/09/12. Paypal say deposits were sent on 13th and 14th respectively. Maybe its the weekend that creates the hold it up??

    Patience ;)

01 Vantage linked, PayPal payments sent 10th showed online on 14th

02 & 03 Vantage linked, PayPal payments sent 12th not yet showing - should be tomorrow 17th?

Slight problem is that both accounts end in same 4 numbers so its a bit like Russian Roulette to confirm the payments, but apparently I have 3 guesses before I'm locked out

Exactly the same here. Opened 01 online, no problem. Opened 02 online, no problem, though they did send debit card & cheque book despite me declining the offer :p Couldn't open 03 online but easily done by phone.

Yes you can usually do it online from within your account They may do a credit check though.

I found the option, clicked it and got the following message:

"Sorry, we can't offer you a secondary current account. You can upgrade your account if you wish."

When I opened the first account, I stated it was for "Bill payment purposes", maybe thats why.

Ah well, it's only £72/year (3% on 5K = £120, 4% on 6K = £192). I'm not sure if its worth a trip to the bank to setup. Actually, thats £6/month. Its worth it!

Patience? :) yeh I suppose! DD appears as of late today for the first account so that's now the two DDs for that, though I've yet to hear from Tesco about that apart from the DD appearing very quickly and a PIN for a card I haven't got.
Maybe I'll see payments tomorrow(ish) and for the other account follow in the next days. Still have another DD being transferred by SAGA for that.

They must have tightened up on people opening multiple accounts then. However, you could always try a full application online, but without logging into your account.

No, they were displaying that message years ago when they first launched the Vantage 4% product.

It was posted on here at the time, and the way forward then was to visit branch as I and others did. Some even bagged up to 7 sole accounts for nigh on £50K at 4%!
