If that's the case the junior Manager who "upgraded" the a/c 3 weeks ago and the cashier who checked the account today are totally incompetant... something which wouldn't suprise me in the slightest!
I agree, when I visited my local branch they didn't even know about the 4% offer, despite advertising it in the window! However, the people on the end of the 0800 number couldn't have been more helpful - the accounts were updated in minutes and at the end of the phone call, the 'Upgrade' buttons stopped working.

It seems only a formal complaint will solve your issues now as seemingly, the in-branch staff still don't know how to use their own computers.

In my case the 0800 staff made a mistake too. They upgraded accounts No 1 and 3 correctly, but not No2. I phoned to complain. The "blonde" assistant could not understand just kept repeating there was a note on the system that three accounts were upgraded. Eventually I gave up trying to explain.

I phoned again. Got a "brunette" assistant who was able to correct the error. :T

You're right to complain. I cannot see why it would happen in December if it's not set up right now.
True, once mine was set up I received the proper increase interest straight away.

However, when I went into the branch to add the 4% rate, they somehow managed to upgrade my Classic account to a Gold account instead. Had to make a 45 minute phone call to sort it out, after I was told I'd be phoned back and wasn't (as always). The incompetence is astounding.

Lloyds finally got their act together once I fired of the claim form and they sent a nice letter explaining that I wasn't properly upgraded and its been upgraded now and I've been awarded a further £15 interest and £25 for the frustration caused which is reasonable and I'm happy with that.

I've liked Lloyds from the outset and in the 1 year I've been with them, my experience has been pleasant, their online website is one of the best I've used of all banks so I was becoming disheartened when all this happened but finally happy its been sorted and can now recommend Lloyds to others. Thanks lloyds :j

So I take it that your no longer closing your account and moving your money elsewhere, like you stated in a previous post?

+1 Unfortunately many of their counter & tele staff seem to be ill trained & incompetent.

I've had loads of problems with Lloyds TSB, mainly with them just doing the wrong thing (changing accounts incorrectly, saying an account doesn't exist when it does, interest rates being wrong, etc.) but after having accounts with Santander, Halifax, Natwest and First Direct, I can see that they are all as bad as each other and it's mainly about luck. Co-Op was good but their website is crap, and Nationwide seems good so far but I choose to stay with Lloyds TSB because of the benefits I get from the accounts they offer (primarily Vantage and Graduate).

You might have a different opinion after you have to visit a branch

Aside from things that can only be done in branch (like depositing the occasional cheque or opening a branch-only account), the only time I've gone to a branch is to complain to Halifax about them taking...15 weeks I think it was to do something that takes 20 seconds on their computer systems. :)

If and when you try to close a NW account, I hope you don't have as much hassle as I did. It was a nightmare
