Well our time scale wasn't good. When we told people how long it took us from the offer excepted to moving in you would think it was a huge chain with problems.
Ha Ha think again! Once upon a time there hubby and me, no house to sell ready to go, offer excepted January 2006, contracts ready to sign on our doorstep March 2006, Moving date July 2006, YES, JULY!!!!
Top of the chain a retired couple nothing to buy, excepted there purchase offer January 2006.
That was our chain...... oooh except for one thing, the vendor in the middle....
They would not talk talk to anyoneI mean anyone not even there own estate agents...
Well after six months we paid for our house, 10 am to be precise, told to collect the key from the estate agents,:j not so fast:rolleyes: they didn't have any keys and never hadmore do I here you say:eek: we set off to our new house hoping to catch the vendors before they left,ha ha ha:rotfl:
They hadn't even packed up:rolleyes: and mad wife wanted hubby to call police because we were in our house bought and paid for.
We had to wait for 2 days for them to pack and move out:beer: but they left us a broken garage door, cooker, a garage door lying in the garden, and rubbish.
We are now in the process of taking them to court soon, just checking all the small claims court papers, because they still haven't acknowledged any communication for the last 7 months. Anyone any ideas if we can claim????0 -
Sympathies & Good luck 'mariecc' - I hope you can get some of the money back (you'd paid for the house)!0

I viewed the house I am now living in on 16th nov, put in offer 17 nov, accepted 20 Nov, instructed solicitor 27 Nov (waited this long as wanted to make sure I could get mortgage although already agreed in principle and wanted to wait until the vendor had moved out. They had sold house as part exchange. I exchanged and completed 8 Dec. Reason it was this quick is because this house was part exchange and the searches had already been done.0

Poor you! they sound a bit nutty, but you can;'t choose the people you're buying from can you. Good luck -I'm not sure what claim you can make, you could try calling citizens advice, they're pretty good on these issues....or the good old internet!I am finally a homeowner!!:beer:0 -
We had nothing to sell and it took 6months to get in.
a big chain I hear you say maybe!!!;) Nope.
Offer excepted January 2006 moved in July 07. Yep it took that long.
Only 3 in the chain, us:A the vendor (who we will call ratbags) and the retired couple with nothing to buy:A
The ratbags wouldn't talk to anyone not even their own estate agents, after 5 months of waiting we went to the house to find out what was going on? we were confronted with a (literally)screaming, histerical wife on the door step, she couldn't cope with the harrassment!! 5 months what harrassment????We had the contracts to sign on our door step at the end of march.
In the end we went to see the retired couple:A who thought we were the problem:rotfl: It turns out that ratbacks wouldn't communicate with them either or anyones solicitors:eek: In the finish it was the retired couple who said they were pulling the plug if completion didn't happen:o that did the trick:T
But alas it took us 2 days to get them out:mad: they hadn't even started packing and this was on the actual day of completionand kindly left a broken garage door a spare garage door in the garden rusted solid, rubbish and a broken cooker.
We have been writing to our solicitor since last year and hearing no replies.
So now we are looking to take them to court.
Anyone have any knowledge on all of this?
All opions welcome:o0 -
Further dilemma to my story, just been told by my vendor's estate agent that we are in a chain now despite when we originally had our offer accepted we were told that they would look for a house once he gets all the money. My interpretation meant that the house would have had to be completed for him to have the money. Apparently they've just put an offer on house and is awaiting for the offer to be accepted. This has kind of screwed us up as we are deemed for £3k penalty for early redemption if we don't move into the house as soon as the sale of our flat is exchanged and completed.
I'm dreading that by August I am still in this situation, is there way whereby we can ask the vendor to vacate the property whilst they are still sorting out their house purchase ? As we are nearly ready to exchange on our sale.
Grateful for any advice !!0 -
we made an offer on 16th feb 2007 our mortgage offer was made on the 20th march but wasn't actually sent out until the 27th march we then spent time sorting out problems with mortgage company losing our proof of id 5 times and finally exchanged today 11th april to complete tomorrow 12th april. so it took around 8 weeks from instruction to completion which felt like a lifetime to me but on reading the experiences of others i see how lucky we are!0

I accepted an offer on the 7th March, and everything was completed (missives signed) on 5th April.

congrats to you - unfortunately, I've hit a brick wall. I have contract, ready to sign and deposit ready to send, but I am STILL waiting back on outstanding queries - for the past two weeks nothing has happened, except me chasing solicitor, solicitor chasing sellers solicitor and nothing happening.
It's been 8 weeks now, I really need to move soon  :mad:I am finally a homeowner!!:beer:0
