I've been told, some of my searches will take 1week, some 2weeks and one (drainage) more than two weeks.

Contract and mortgage offer already with solicitor - I don't know how much longer for me since instruction on 22nd March 07.

Can the solicitors do anything else that needs doing in parallel while waiting for the search results?
  • Spoke to my solicitor for the first time yesterday. Must say i wasn't particularly enamoured with her, she wasn't very helpful and couldnt really advise me on anything. I felt I was wasting her time!
    I am finally a homeowner!!

I am going to sound really dumb....... but here goes, what does instruction mean?
  • When you engage solicitors, you instruct them to carry out your conveyancing. When you ask estate agents to sell your house, then you instruct them to sell.

It basically means you are giving the solicitors approval to go ahead with their side of the conveyancing/legal process.

This costs money (which can not be recouped in the event of a non sale) so most buyers usually do not want to "instruct" their solicitors until after they have a mortgage offer from the bank/building society.
