    Totally agree, but in this case it's not really a case of proving competency although I said it was earlier.

    If things don't go wrong there will never be the need to do that.

    You need to rewind and read that I said it is wrong and is an anomaly, ie, extraordinary by it's inclusion.

    Maybe I would make myself clearer by saying the way it would go wrong for the householder would be if he was proven incompetent, as in reality he'd never need to prove he was competent.

    I'm with you in sentiment, but from a personal point of view, I'm glad it's how it is, (for me), take care,;);):T:T

    i wasn't having a go at you me ole mate, just the system & the stupid way it seems to work.
    I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

    i wasn't having a go at you me ole mate, just the system & the stupid way it seems to work.

    I understand that chap ;);).

    The law is as it stands and I compare the gas regs to one other aspect of my life.

    I have a firearms certificate, have had for many years, but I still rember the advice or warning given to me by the 1st firearms officer who came to see me about my original application. Went something like this;

    "The regulations are all laid out here and aren't complicated but do need complying with. Nobody's going to be chasing you round checking, so you'd jolly well better make sure you don't screw up or we'll be down on you like a ton of bricks"

    Good analogy I think;)

    This bit's for you Keith, as I think we both think the law is an a s s at times.

    Back to shooting;

    I won't quote the law but as it stands, if I fire a firearm within 50 feet of a public highway, bridleway or footpath that causes offence or distress to a member of the public, I am guilty of a breach of the firearms regs.

    So, I shoot in the air 16yrds from the footpath, someone 1/2 a mile away, outside of shooting range gets worried and phones 999.

    I have committed a serious offence.

    But if I wait until that person is directly in front of me, take a step back to 17yrds and fire directly over their head, it zero offence.

    It gets better.
    When a virgin piece of farmland is accessed for being suitable for safe shooting of a determined calibre of firearm, the fire arms office walks the land with the shooter, if it's ok, it then becomes allowable land for that particular calibre.

    A good chunk of "my" land borders the M1 motorway.

    The FA officer actually said to me, "technically if you had permission you could shoot from the hard shoulders as the regs state the centre of a highway, foot path or bridleway.

    The law is trully an a s s.

    God this swear filter is trully an armpit. you can'r even sayass?????
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

    Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
