There was one in Long Eaton too? Jesus! No, this was in Leicester.

Her bruising is getting worse around her face now and she's a great shade of blue!

Frugal Fox - it's a shame you were forced out of retail by it. We've been discussing how this could have ruined our lives as she's about to get a promotion that will land us really well on our feet. This attack has put the promotion in jeopardy as she might not feel up to being even more responsible, and even worse she may end up wanting to leave retail altogether!

Emmaroids - Tesco are not accountable for anything really, it's not their fault she chased after the guy and there was no security, but could have been if she'd asked for it. Just a shame really that a horrible 17 year old lad feels that he should make his attack at 6:05!

Thanks all for your replies - when she's feeling less anxious I may show her this thread!

Hiya, i'm in Leicester too. Hope she's ok, she should definitely let the police know & see her GP too, to be on the safe side. Plus it'd be in her medical notes if they caught the guy & it went further! What kind've person attacks someone for that, it's sick. Hope she takes some time off to recover.

    Sorry to hear that mate.

But remind her that it is Tesco's stuff that is being nicked. It's not worth risking your own safety for their gear. They won't appreciate it.

I tackled a shoplifter once at Tesco and got him on the floor and pinned him down until their 'security' came along. They took my details but did they ever send me a thanks? Did they f***!

I am sorry, but I have to put my two pence in !!

From what I gather, Tesco have a no conflict policy (don't chase shoplifters). Your GF clearly ignored this and has suffered as a result. If she worked for my co (opposition) and I have to be honest, she would be very lucky if she does not face disciplinary action. Dismissal !!! quite likely !!!

I tell my staff time and time again, that their lives are not worth the few pieces of paper in their till or the stuff people love to nick.

I am sorry to say that rules and regulations are there to protect staff. Tomorrow, Tesco's will have forgotten about you, so why risk your life ????

    Not a chance, I say.

Thanks for your reply; I do appreciate your comment.

This policy probably does exist - her training certainly says it. However - for a manager to completely ignore a 17 year old little sh*t running off with whatever he chooses is very hard. I doubt my GF stood there thinking about whether or not to break the rules.

Fact is, she's in a mess now and we're both quite angry about it.

She won't get a disciplinary; she won't give them time to do it. A company that disciplines a member of staff that's been assaulted whatever the circumstances would be not worth working for.

    Not a chance about what?

I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a terrible start to your day and I know it's not much help speculating but here's my twopenneth anyway...
six lads out shoplifting at 6 in the morning? Most lads of that age don't get out of bed til mid afternoon on a sunday so sounds like they're after money for drugs to me. If they're off their heads they might not even remember what they've done or where they were so maybe they'll foolishly come back to the shop another day - and as they were on cctv inside the store they'll probably be recognised by the staff and hopefully locked up.

Or were they on their way home from a night out - why did the Govt think it was a good idea to have 24 hour a day Licensing? I know a lot of nightclubs took advantage of the clocks going forward an hour and stayed open until some ridiculous time of the morning!

So sorry to hear about this. Wish your GF a very quick recovery. Hope the police catch whoever did this AND that they are properly punished. You sound like a brilliant BF. Good Luck to both of you!

Gosh, I'm so sorry this happened to your GF!

Hope she's feeling better - bruising tends to increase in area as it heals.

I can't believe that some people are criticising her action, though - I would have done the same. Actually, I can't believe that big stores have a, what it amounts to, 'come and shoplift here' policy!

Kudos to your GF for her spirit, and work (and personal) ethics!

It's all to easy to say what we would do, but we don't know until it happens to us. I know where I work shoplifters have been chased by managers time & again, as the OP says it's instinct. Policy also says don't put yourself at risk, but if I saw someone attacked I would help too, regardless of policy. As someone said I doubt she stood there thinking first, besides I think she's only too aware of policy & has learnt what not to do next time! The ones that should be disciplined are the thugs that did this. And yeah, top marks to the OP, we could all do with someone so caring!
