My GF has been attacked!

Yesterday I got a call at 6:10am (10 minutes into my GF opening the Tesco express store she is temporarily managing) from one of her colleagues saying my GF had been attacked by a shoplifter.
I got to the store to find her bleeding everywhere from her nose with multiple cuts around it and the bridge of her nose had a big gash in it.
She's now fast asleep in bed with a swollen face and a bandage on her nose with two black eyes and swollen eyes.
I'm so angry that some 17 year old lad and his SIX mates felt that they could steel from her store and then when she chased them to get the goods back he also felt he could elbow her in the face and then walk off laughing with his mates while my GF was crying on the floor of a garage forecourt.
My GF is the most gorgeous thing I've come accross and I love her so much and I'm SO furious she's in this state just because she was trying to save her shop's stock.
The police are involved and looking for this kid but even if they find him what will they do? Nothing at a guess.
Sorry for rant.

Really sorry to hear this, poor lady; good that she's got you to look after her. Hope the CCTV will catch them.I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.0

The CCTV is being looked at by the police but I'm not sure the attack will be caught on camera - it happened just at the edge of the forecourt which isn't usually something that needs to be filmed as nothing happens there.0

I would take issue with Tesco if they have not given you GF appropriate training so that she knows not to give chase. Tesco must have regard to the safety of their staff especially at small stores that are more vunerable. Make sure your GF gets Tesco to record the incident and she should speak to their H&S officer.

The problem is she knows not to chase if she thinks there's going to be trouble. Instinct made her chase him as like most people it insences her that someone can just go and get what they want and not bother to pay for it.
The area manager is going to call her today to discuss what happened. The whole area will have been told by now with another reminder to be careful with shoplifters!0 -
Sorry to hear of your troubles
Its never ever worth getting into this situation for a few ££££££ let the thieving toerags take the goods......the outcome could have been a lot worse than a bruised up face.
I agree with Poppy9 its very much a Tesco H&S issue young female staff in my opinion should never never be put in this situation.0 -

That's where the training has been deficient. It hasn't got across to staff that they must look after their own safety. It should be drummed into them that the theif could have been carrying a knife etc.
OH is a policeman and he knows when to back off as his training has taught him to. He knows he can get into more trouble for persuing someone than backing off. It is part of his training that a dead policeman is no good to anyone.

Why don't Tesco have security staff? My local 24/7 petrol station/Somerfield has a security guard there at all times.I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.0

That's awful
Sorry to hear that!
I hope they catch the scally's and that your girlfriend makes a speedy recovery."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
You might want to take legal advice (from CAB or legal advice centre, I mean - I am not trying to encourage you to spend loads of money on a solicitor. Although you might want to find out whether local solicitors do a 'cheap' one hour consultation, if you don't have access to a CAB type thing) about whether you should be suing Tesco for their inadequate training. But maybe Tesco will come up with a generous compensation offer anyway...:whistle:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Bloody Tescos, I depise them as much I despise the !!!! who attacked your girlfriend. Tescos put profit in front of people. It would cost them next to nothing to hire a security guard for a few hours in the morning - say 6 -9am and at night before the shop closes.
This is a lesson to all of us - never give chase to all these animals esp if the are nicking from money-grabbing multi-milliion profit making businesses such as Tescos. These animals are doing exactly what Tescos and other companies do to the general public.
Dude very sorry about your missus, hope she gets better and those animal are caught and locked up in cages where they belong.0
