Ladies-thank you for this thread! I read it last night and called my GP this morning, amazingly had an appt at 11.10!
She told me that most PCTs won't prescribe Vaniqa as it is too expensive, but she consulted the partners in the practice and they agreed to let me have it:D:D
So prescription in the chemist, picking up later. Feel really lucky to be allowed to have it actually as I could not afford to buy it!
She also recommended a clinic round the corner, and she explained it all in great detail and showed me what she had had done (not at that clinic!)
I have come away with hope! :T0 -
Fab! Let us know how you get on with the VaniqaWealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0

I will do, reading the web site it looks like 4-8 weeks for real progress but we shall see
I did have to jump a few hurdles-I have to have blood tests to check everything, as my surgery need to prove they have done all they need to before giving it out willy nilly, and I cannot have it on repeat prescription, I need to see a GP each time I need a new pot.
They have no idea how long a pot will last as no one there has been allowed it!
I did actually burst into tears when she said no...possibly that had something to so with it.......0 -

Maybe I should try again while the NHS is still the NHS, 'cause there will be no chance to get it w/out paying once the surgery becomes part of Virgin Serco Circle Inc. (This also applies to anything else you want done health-wise - go now, trust me.)0 -

Aw bless!
I think I'd feel silly seeing my Dr about it coz I know my problem isn't anywhere near as bad as others, but it still does get me down...
Will be interesting to hear how you get on. Think you use it morning and night from what I read, so figure maybe a months supply or so? Depends how generous you are with it though!!

The sad thing is that you wouldn't have known much about what has happened even if you did pay attention to the news, especially the BBC. The NHS has been largely privatised in a pretty sordid way and the media has not deemed this newsworthy. Anyway:
The Health & Social Care Act made law in spring 2012 means that Primary Care Trusts will be abolished and replaced by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) - Cameron's cover story is that these will be led by GPs, therefore care will be better. The truth is that this change was a vehicle for privatisation, which will bring great benefits to the pockets of major players in the Tory party through their interests in private healthcare companies.
When CCGs decide what services to offer and who will deliver them, the NHS will no longer be the 'preferred provider'. Instead, CCGs must consider 'any willing provider' and the market will be subject to EU competition law. Companies can sue if they feel they have not been given a fair shot at a contract, and guess what? Your tax money is already going to Virgin, Serco and Circle through NHS contracts and you have no right to know what they do with it because this is covered by....wait for it....commercial confidentiality.
It's about asset-stripping and defunding public services for a) profit and b) setting the scene for the fave Tory argument that public services are inefficient (which means more privatisation, greater profits and increased disenfranchisement of the already non-socially-mobile working classes).
OK, derail over. I'm just saying - I am from a country where there's pretty much only private healthcare, and I am confident that Richard Branson cares a lot more about his bottom line than he does about your health. So get your stuff taken care of now if you can.0 -
Thanks for the info Chia. Been googling and from what I can see it is only England. Well, England is the only place I see mentioned. Will have to keep my ears open for updates on that...Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0

Only a matter of time probably!!Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -
I have PCOS and since 16 have been like a small bear. Almost black hair and fair skin being a lovely combination except on a woman's top lip.
I had electrolysis for years = painful and ulitimately pointless. I then bleached bu was the peroxide hairy - and then moved to home wax - painful, messy and obvious.
Longer term solution has been salon waxing - my legs now have few fine hairs and need doing infrequently. Top lip and chin I have done every fortnight - it can some times be a few days later - and sometimes I am a bit self concious in the last day or so before I go. I might be imagining it but I am sure it grows quicker in summer.
During holidays away I usually book a salon/spa appointment to keep it clear.
The worst times being when trapped as an inpatient in hospital and I felt freakish as well as ill. I now have plan to ask trusted beautician to visit me should I ever be in that position again.0
