I'm in my 30's and for the past few years I have had more and more dark hairs coming in on the edge of my chin and a few on my neck. I find them REALLY embarrassing. In the past when they were coming in less frequent I waxed them, but now I'm having to pluck them almost every day and each time I get about 20 hairs (sorry gross subject I know).

Now that I am starting a new job, they are immacutely groomed there, and plucking can sometimes leave my face looking sore. I have tried the Rio machine which although was great on my legs (I only need to shave them once a month) was no use on my face. I've seen ads for Nono but £200 is a lot of money to fork out if it doesn't work. I've also seen a threading wand which even though I'm a total wuss with pain would try if it worked on the really short hairs (as i don't want stubble).

Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it?

I epliate with great success, Asian women have been wet shaving routinely for years, very MSE and once you get over the man thing it must be quicker and easier on the skin (eventually) than plucking:)

Have you tired bleaching instead? You can buy a product called Joleen (sp?) from Boots and Superdrug etc. Do a skin test first, though.

  • Threading. Take an antiinflammatory beforehand, try not to go on PMT week, wear waterproof mascara and remember the first couple of times will sting, but you grow accustomed to it being worth it for the result.

Oh, and be prepared for the horror that is realising exactly how much hair is there that you did not notice beforehand (I'd recommend a full face once a month, lip/chin and eyebrows weekly)

Some people are more adept at it than others - make sure she has nice eyebrows herself, as it means she has a good eye for what suits you and will spot the hairs that need to come out.

Just to be on the safe side, please go and see your GP as excess hair can be a symptom of polycystic ovaries.

The hairs are very thick and wiry and very noticeable, would this work?

I did have a chat as that was my first thought but unfortunately the dark, thick facial hair runs in my family and I've been told its worse as I'm overweight :(

I just wax myself at the mo but it makes my skin go bright red for hours, so i do it before bed and i get spots a few days after...great!

I've tried epilating and seriously cannot force myself to touch skin with my machine. I also have an epicare wand/stick which is metal and you twist it to get the hairs out, similar to threading and it hurts like hell for me and i find i just cannot do it. :o

I do think it depends on how sensitive your skin is in those areas. I can epilate my underarms and legs without flinching, just my face really hurts.

The No!No! hair removal system gets bad reviews (google and you will see what I mean). I wouldn't buy it.

I have the same problem but get more hairs out than you (I estimate 50-100 a day; like yours they are thick, dark and wiry). I pluck in term time (I teach in a secondary school so can't leave them be) and then every school holiday I let them grow for three days (covering up with a scarf and living like a hermit during this time!) before going for a wax. I have not tried bleaching but don't think it would work as the roots would show through too often IMO. I do sometimes try to maintain it by shaving but then the roots soon show through the skin again. I have also tried a home electrolysis kit but found it useless for the number of hairs I have (it's fine if you want to spend hours on it) and of course you can only shave between treatments.

I reckon a cycle of waxing and plucking is a good way to go.
