Why the everyday make-up?

Make-up wearing individuals - want you to accept that they have free-will and are not idiots slavishly following the instructions of the advertisers.
Yes you have free will, but why are you so unwilling to accept that there are external influences on your choices? That goes for all of us, none of us are so special that we're completely immune to society's expectations.0 -
My partner tends to wear makeup every day as it helps her confidence. She doesn't put a great deal on - a bit of lip gloss, some foundation and some other stuff that I have no real understanding of. I've asked her about why she hates leaving the house without makeup, primarily because I always think she looks her most beautiful in the morning before it goes on, but she says she doesn't like how she looks without it.
When she's going out she tends to make quite an effort on her eyes as she believes that if she draws attention to them, men are less inclined to look at her boobs. I have no evidence supporting her theory but anyway...0 -

Of course there are external influences such as advertising, but to me, that would be more likely to make me buy a certain brand, not actually influence me to put the make up on. I think, anyway!

I'm not really talking about advertising, I mean a really pervasive, general 'thing' about our culture.
I'm off out tonight, I'm not going on the pull, there's nobody I particularly want to look attractive for, the friends I'm with know exactly what I look like without makeup because I hardly ever wear any and they aren't horrified by my normal face, but I will still be wearing it because I know that's what's expected and I would feel very self conscious without it!
Its downright weird, and it stinks!0 -
Tina20 putting a disclaimer on your post does not hide the fact that you do write some patronising drivel. I also think you protest too much.
But then again I am a slave, with low self esteem, who doesn't know my own mind and all because .... I like to put some make up onThe most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -

Beleive it or not my friends are not horrifed by my normal face either! :rotfl:
I just like to accessorise everything. I co-ordinate my make up to my clothes
Don't wear it if you don't want to. Anyone that judges is an idiot. Same goes for those that judge anyone wearing it.£608.98

Its not that simple though, is it? People do judge as this thread shows (I've just shaved my underarms as I'd hate to make anybody 'vom in their mouth) and like it or not I would be aware of the fact that everybody else was made up and I wasn't.
Your post seemed a bit defensive, I'm not attacking, I thought we were discussing!0 -

But I have acknowledged that... a few days ago I mentioned how my mother's habits and Italian culture had influenced my choices and approach to grooming.
Even today I said this:Tiddlywinks wrote: »Our external environment, family culture / values and life experiences all influence our lives and how we live... as does how our mental capacity / fragility drives how much we are impacted by negative influences.
Whatever the reasons for wearing (or not wearing) makeup, can't we just accept that one size doesn't fit all and just stop the judgements?
The 'judgements' part of that response was not directed towards you by the way, but to Tina20's continued assertions about the motivation of makeup users.:hello:0 -

I ahve noticed lately though that my eyebrow hairs have grown very long, more than an inch and wonder whether it is possible to have them trimmed or is that just silly?
I sometimes get my eyebrows threaded (a cheap place in the market, costs less than a fiver) and the lady trims mine at the start of each brow.52% tight0
