Wow, what a good question. When I first joined the site, I 'lurked' for some time, looking for advice on debt as Mr 3Dogs and I had about £14,000 debt between us and no way of paying it back as I was on long-term incapacity benefit and Mr 3Dogs was then on incapacity benefit too, with no sign of returning to work. I tentatively made my first post on a thread about sorting out debt problems around March 2010 and then got posting on the Notice to Newcomers thread on the DFW forum, and soon got very comfortable with posting and started offering advice to others as they first posted. Over the next year I started to sort out our debt, following the wonderful advice offered on MSE, putting in my Debt Relief Order in January 2011 with 'cleared' my debt in January 2012 :j and put a DRO in for Mr 3Dogs too. so I am debt free and that has certainly helped, given recent events
Apart from recent events, posting on MSE has had a very dramatic effect on my life in that I made live-long friends with Savingwanabe (Kit), StevieHants (Steve) and HantsinDebt (Andy) who visit me and I visit them regularly - they are family now and I don't know how I could have coped without them, to be honest. Plus of course, Aesop and Beanie who I have met and consider as great friends too. And all the others who have supported me through all this, too many to mention, but all appreciated very much
So the biggest difference in my life, apart from recent events, is the friendships made over the time I have posted
Yes, that was a very good question Amber - thank youMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

I am smiling today - today is a good day so far
I took Molly to the vets and he took her stitches out and, despite me being worried about her charging around all week and there being a knotted lump under the outer stitches, he said she is fine and that will settle :j :j :j :j :j
Postman finally brought my letter from Mr 3Dogs' pension which confirms that I will receive the money due as a lump sum for the two policies :j :j which means I can now look for my new car :j :j :j :j :j I've got to admit I was worried in case I had to take the fund as an annuity/pension, which would have been ok, but would not enabled me to get a new car and I really feel that, if I could afford it, a new car was what I needed, for peace of mind more than anything. A reliable car that I could maintain cheaply is what I need, so very happy with that :j :j :j :j
The other thing is that Alan thought he was going to get this money paid to him under special rules for terminal illness and it put his mind at rest that I could get a new car and would have a little money in the bank behind me, after he was gone. Something we have never really had during our time together. However, due to the doctor taking his time signing the medical form and Alan going so quickly in the end, that was not to be and I had to apply for death benefits from his pension instead. He will be pleased that I will be getting the lump sum
So lots of :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j from me today, and a nod to Alan up there watchingMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

It is good to know that the system works sometimes 3Dogs - so often people fall foul of technicalitie and end up losing out. I have had a few sleepless nights lately about making the final payment for my car (due 7th Sept) but the money is all sorted and sitting in the savings account waiting to be transfered at the last minute. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing.
Which reminds me my car is due for a service and its first MOT so will have to get it booked in.0 -
 to Alan for waving his magic scarf (NU not SFC :rotfl:)
so pleased the car money has been sorted 3Dogs. What a great weight of your mind. Lovely merrywidow has replied very quickly, giving me the answer I thought I would get. but that's ok, I have to live with it. DS will receive a lot of education at homelike he always has. And he does have friends he already knows at the school chosen by the council and he will make plenty more friends.
You never know Alan might wave his magic scarf for DS too

I'm back, Linda's shopping is all done and I've been in for a chat with another elderly lady neighbour, so going to settle down to watch some more of the Olympics :j
Mmmm apple cake - you know where I live Boult ..... ooops sorry, can't have any
:j :j to making the last payment on your car JayJay. I was certainly worried that I might lose out on this pension money, so I'm delighted that it has all worked out and what was due to him is going to be paid out to me, especially in a lump sum :j
Glad MMW was able to advise you Aesop, even though it is not what you wished. I am sure that your DS will get a great education, you will make sure of thatAlan with a NUFC scarf   Never, it must be his SAFC shirt he is wearing. He'd never touch, never mind wave, a Toon scarf
