this is gonna sound dumb but stay with it.... ok so sometimes poor circulation can cause pins and needles try keeping your hands moving, dont sit on your hands! eating bannanas can help your circulation or drinking stout !!!! i know it sounds odd but it might help.

Have you gone to your GP?
I had carpal tunnel syndrome in right hand (symptoms like cramp and numb pins and needles).
It started when I was pregnant with eldest.
I had operation on hand but it still came back a bit in next pregnancy.0 -
I should have said that its not myself with this problem but my brother. He hasn`t seen his GP because he is working overseas just now. Everytime I am talking with him he is complaining of this. I was just worried about him.0

agree with earlier posts, circulation is one, generally not enough oxygen reaching furthest points, not sure how to overcome that. also my mum suffered exactly the same and she had carpal tunnel. Does he do a lot of work with hands, especially having them in un-natural movements a lot?0

one of the most common causes of intermittant pins and needles in both/either hand is due to pressure on the spinal column, anywhere between the shoulder blades and the base of the head.
I know i have the same symptoms, currently waiting results of Xray on C spine region, ie between head and shoulder blades.
I get pins and needles at odd occasions, two days ago i had it in both hands, but only on the small finger and the finger next to it., I was sitting wathcing telly, with my arms resting on the chair arms.
I have also had it all down one arm, like having selpt on it, except i was asleep on the opposite side.....
your brother should see his GPsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... :cool:0 -
he is a welder to trade therfore he does work alot with his hands.0

Did he have anything like a trapped nerve in his neck a while back?
I did a couple of years ago, and several months later, started getting pins and needles in my arm and hand.
I would get them if I simply lay on one side, and not on the side I was lying on.
I am sure I read on an osteopathy/chiropracty site afterwards that you can get the pins and needles a long time after the original problem? It is a while, so I wouldn't have a clue where I read it, but I would no doubt have been Googling.0 -
not sure what the cause may be, but sitting or lying very still taking deep breaths always eases crampp for me (usually in legs duroing night).0

Not sure about the cramp in the hands (hope that gets sorted soon), but cramp in the legs can be due to a calcium and magnesium deficieny, according to Gillian McKeith's "You are what you eat" book, and I've heard it elsewhere as well.0

didn't know that. will have to find out more.0
