Hi All,
I've ust found that we have fleas in three of our rooms - proper peeved as we've never had them before and feeling pretty gross about it all.
Can I pleasehat the Indorex is? Have been lookng online and found flea foggers - are they the same thing? We have tropical fish, gerbils and snakes as well as the cats so will have to move them to a neighbours house while we treat I expect. Interesting about councils, will phone them in the morning and ask what they are able to do.
God I hate fleas!!!!WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
I think flea foggers dust the whole house 3 dimensionally, including the curtains, and you have to vacate the house during this period. Indorex is supposed on 'work' on whatever you spray it on. Although unless you covers the entire flea infested area in one go you risk the fleas moving back in. Don't expect it to work on thick carpets though.
I had a word with a neighbour who works in pest control. His face dropped when I mentioned shag pile carpet. He said replace with a thin carpet, then spray any other parts.0 -
I had a bad problem with them not that long ago (as of last thursday) I got that Indorax stuff and was really pleased. By friday evening I couldnt find one of the little bu99ers.
With a shag carpet would it be an idea to go bit by bit? Brush it the wrong way and spray, brush it the right way and spray?[STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

Yeah, the second time I brushed it all ways with a firm brush and spayed right into the depth of it. I used one can for the 10 square metres which should have been enough for the entire house.
It doesn't give me much confidence when I rub my legs with the Premetherin of 10 times the concentration and they still climb up my feet. I think fleas have become resistant to it though.
No fleas caught in traps for a day though, so hopefully it might have taken effect, not holding my breath though!0 -
I now suspect having an animal in the house with poisoned blood is a distinct advantage (no pun intended) they act as a magnet for the fleas and kill em, which prevents them going for you!
There is no advantage whatsoever in having an animal in the house other than as a burglar deterrent.
The fact that they attract fleas does sort of ruin the argument.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I really mean after the fleas have got in.
In my case I had the worst case scenerio. I looked after animals which weren't properly dosed which presumably shook of some eggs into a shag pile. Then they went back to the original owners. By the time the next generation of fleas developed in the carpet they only had my blood to feed on and no dog deterrent.
The question remains why do the fleas not jump on me or anyone else in the house where the dogs live yet it is absolutely filthy? All I can presume is that they are jumping on the dogs taking a bite then falling off dead.
I had never even seen a flea until two months ago despite being in close contact with these dogs and their filthy house for many years.0 -
It depends whether they are dosed doesn't it?

Sorry I shouldn't have posted, I was thinking further, and considering folks that are allergic to fur and animal/bird dust.
Animals in the house is a sure fire way to lose a whole section of your friends as they have to put their health as a priority.
Fleas are the lesser issue for me.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Almost same procedure and equipment as me, bet you didn't have a shag pile carpet though?
Perhaps many people still have them for a few months before the colony dies out. One can become ultrasensitive to identifying them.
Correct. It wasn't shag pile, twas pretty thick carpet though. The room I had to do was about 20SqM - In total I used 3 bottles of indorex and a about 3 of the power stuff (can't remember the name now). I wasn't taking any chances. Fleas  Dead Fleas :T0 -
I've just bought a flea trap and a flea bomb so I'll let you know how it goes.
I have treated my cat 8 times with various spot ons, powders and tablets - obviously not overdosing the poor thing. I'm combing him every day with these treatments and still picking out 4-5 fleas a day off him.
There are other cats in the street so they are just infesting eachother repeatedly. I am totally fed up with having bites around my ankles so it's time to take drastic action.
Apparently these traps have a bulb that warms to the temperature of a pet so fools the flea into thinking it's a pet and they jump off the carpets, furniture and pets within a 10 metre radius in the house and into the trap. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I'll let you know how effective it is.0 -
I've noticed fleas are atracted to anything warm such as those heat packs, they much prefer my feet though after coming out of the bath. A low tray of soapy water seems to be effective. Keeping my fingers crossed since only trapped one within the last 3 days and that on the first day.0
