Failed to get rid of Fleas emerging from a shag pile carpet after 2 doses of Indorex spaying and one of powder over 2 weeks, so I am contemplating either:
  1. Bringing in Rentokill, would they be any more effective though? Any idea how much they cost, or if there is a cheaper alternative?
  2. Taking out the shag pile carpet and replacing with a vinyl, not sure if they would deal with the furniture. Problem is a cabinet will probably break in half if it is moved, the carpet could be cut away underneath though
  3. Hiring a professional steam cleaner which is hot enough to kill the Pupae which are presumably impervious to any insecticide (even the rentokill version).
  4. Living with the fleas, placing water traps, walking on chairs to the bed, and keep on hoovering them up, surely their life cycle has been broken and the few remaining fleas can't breed without a dog in the house?
I may buy a new mattress or bed just in case this is a source but I doubt it.

Sometimes you have to do Indorex another time. You need to leave it 48 hours then vaccuum EVERY day to get the fleas to hatch then spray again after 2 weeks.

You will break the life cycle eventually.

Your local council may have a pest control service that charge much less than rentokill try the council. The insecticide is stronger.

When my house was infected with fleas I got the council in. Excellent job and paid £60 which was about 10years ago. Only needed the one visit. Sprayed the whole house with some chemical to kill the little bu66ers

    Simple & cheap solution.

Sprinkle table salt over the carpet (start at the doorway and work inwards to stop the !!!!!!s making it out alive!), leave on the carpet for 24 hours, and then hoover throughly.

If using a bagged hoover seal bag and throw away (outside), if bagless empty into a carrier bag and throw away (outside!).

Hoover each day and throw away bag / empty each time.

Use another dose of salt if necessary.

I've used this method several times and it works! The salt causes the fleas to dehydrate and die!

Tried it last week along with the three other treatments, although I mixed the salt with baking powder and dryed the room using an aircon. These fleas laugh in the face of such attempts, snug deep in their shag pile!

A good way to catch the !!!!!!s is to lay out a tray full of soapy water and double sided sticky tape on cardboard.

Obtained a quote for vinyl laying, £265 all in including moving furniture and taking away the old carpet. This is for a 3.5 x 3.5 m room

I now suspect having an animal in the house with poisoned blood is a distinct advantage (no pun intended) they act as a magnet for the fleas and kill em, which prevents them going for you!
  • When I had the little beggars I bought a flea power that you sprinkle on the floor (plus Indorex) left it down for 24hr before hoovering, then Indorex'd it again after hoovering, Then flea powdered plus Indorex again the next day.

You've gotta have a good hoover though. Over the years I've had a few hoovers that were meant to be A* for pet owners and they've all been pee poor. Had my Dyson 4 years now and I'd never change back to anything else, Dysons cost a wee bit more but they're worth every penny.

Almost same procedure and equipment as me, bet you didn't have a shag pile carpet though?

Perhaps many people still have them for a few months before the colony dies out. One can become ultrasensitive to identifying them.
