I thought it was so and so but I am not one who is too fond of opening or closing ceremonies. The cauldron at the end was the iconic moment of the night though and worth the wait.
Also I was dismayed when it looked like Steve Redgrave had been chosen to light the flame. yes he has won 5 golds in five games but the pool(parden the pun) of talent pitted against him was extremely shallow as I bet less than a hundredth of a percent of the world's population would have even tried rowing. I mean how many rowing Jamaican, Kenyan or Korean gold medallists has there ever been?

If anyone deserves a knighthood, it's Danny Boyle!

I'm Welsh and a republican, but I loved every moment of last night! Loved the Queen showing enough humour to join in.

A witty, self-deprecating, celebratory and egalitarian pageant! Wonderful!

Honestly I watched it as i wanted to hate it - first ten minutes was gash, then it just got better by the minute, Bond was funny, beckham getting a part in the 'lympics was good PR (dinnae want old golden b greeting), Mr Bean was brilliant, the music and film clips were excellent, Redgrave getting to bring the flame into the stadium was needed (jings was thinking he had been forgotten about), kids doing the flame good piece of artistery, Forces raising the flags was jubilant. And a wee appearance from the greatest must have put a tear in every eye.

Loved it just loved it. £27 million - release as a dvd and you'll get the money back easy!

    Rise Sir Danny Boyle.:T

It was very entertaining! But a LOT of it could have been trimmed down and saved the country a lot of cash.

But heyho, nothing I can do about it now.

There never was Tina, or are you an Oscar winning film director in disguise?
Sounds like that line in Amadeus when asked if he enjoyed the performance the emperor replied 'very nice but too many notes'.

On the other hand 204 countries competing, and all wanting there place in the parade Zzzzzzzzz? Bring back the USSR that would trim the list a bit!!

He is famous, even has a song written about him,
Shirley you have heard 'O Danny Boyle'

Or Richard Burton in Where Eagels Dare use the famous call sign, 'Broadsword calling Danny Boyle'.

What on earth was he thinking putting Macca on to end it all?

Did they need the stadium emptying quite quickly then?

A least Brucie wasn't on, probably sleeping in his coffin.
