Maybe you need to come here and have a nasty accident, and find out if you survive a 40 minute trip to next nearest hospital, probably not so I guess yes, that would be a cure for whinging.

Maybe you need to go and live & work in a country where they don't have a free at point of need health care service. And if you are not sure what other countries have a health care system which is free at point of need, let me remind you: absolutely none of them. We are the only country in the world that gives you free health care. From a boil on your backside to a heart and lung transplant, regardless of our ability to pay, it costs you nothing.

And you whinge about a 40 minute journey. Bet you whinge that you you don't get enough benefits but can still manage to pay for more tattoos, special brew and weed.

I still don't get what Shami Chakrabarti was doing there, the whole corporate - government - olympics thing is against everything that Liberty stands for.

The instrumental music used throughout the 'Industrial Revolution' part of the opening ceremony - anyone know what it's called?
If you find out let me know please

If they didn't want him involved, they wouldn't have asked him to do anything...

He didn't do anything, I gather old footage & a brief song clip were used, which probably through music rights, Mr Bowie had no control over.

I doubt he was asked to do anything anyway, Bowie has essentially retired from performing.

Was it 'Nimrod' from the Enigma Variations by Elgar? Recall that being played early on.

Quite fitting as its often played at state funerals.

There were some great parts, especially the Bond sketch, and Rowan Atkinson, and the petals forming the cauldron, but I was disappointed that there was no nod given to GB and the countries which make up GB, its not all about England or just London. Its as if the games belong to London, England, not too much about Wales, NI or Scotland. Scottish singer not even wearing a token tartan and was singing an English hymn.....

Still, the ceremony had some very special moments.

But Danny Boyle is a bit of an egotist don't you think? Agreed Slumdog Millionaire was a fab film. But why did he get that group of kids to sing 'Oh Danny Boyle.....'

Obviously been smoking the same stuff as Danny Boyle eh?

How far is your local hospital Philly boy? have any kids? I do and if God forbid they have an accident currently they will be in hospital in 10 minutes. When its closed it will take 40 minutes and that I am sure a genius like you can see will shorten their chances of surviving. Amazingly, I care more about my families wellbeing than impressing foreign television viewers.

As pretty as the show was celebrating the NHS, I would rather the money had been spend on actually keeping the NHS, especially my hospital, that really would be worth celebrating eh? if thats whinging... so be it!!

(PS never been on benefits, no tattoos, 2 pints of Guiness a week, can't afford drugs and I am employed, curiously, I work very hard to support the NHS functions)

please tell me that comment was supposed to be a joke?

NeverEnough - The Olympics were actually given to London (hence 'London' was announced when it was between London and Paris) and he did incorporate different countries that make up the UK (did you see the bit with the children singing?)

Thought he did a great job, and the lighting of the flame was amazing. Rowen Atkinson was hilarious.

David Beckham speeding down the Thames looking more 'Bond' than Bond was pure genius as was Mr Bean playing Vangelis, and of course Queenie's parchute jump. (They should have got Alan Partridge to commentate on that bit)
Its worth watching the opening ceremony a couple of times ( as I did on my YouView box) as their is so much detail its easy to miss some, Yellow Submarines and the flying pig over Battersea power station come to mind.
