i have two bags of jam sugar that got left ovewr from last year and are now out of date(about 8-10 months out of date.both are unopened.
do you think it is worth using them? or would i be best throwing them and not chancing it?
thought id gather opinions as i have no idea if the date is a waste of space like so many dried etc items or if something does indeed happen to it and it wont work.0 -
I've a bag of jam sugar myself that's most likely out of date. It'll be used when I get around to it, providing it hasn't walked out! I won't be concerned, but will keep an eye on it's set, and if it doesn't will add a little lemon.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

I used some jam sugar I found in my dad's pantry last year that was about 4 years out of date.. it was absolutely fine! (there were a few midgies just inside the top of the packet, so I removed them and used the rest - no probs at all!)0

No problem using it.....Sugar is a potent anti bacterial
nothing untoward will grow in it.

Agree with katieowl, the reason for using sugar in jam in the first place is to preserve the fruitEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Last year we made marmalade using a bag of sugar at the back of the cupboard that was probably more than 3 years old. The marmalade was perfect so I don't think you need to have any worries. There's nothing in sugar that can go "off". Many of these Use By dates are a lot of nonsense and there's hundreds of people on this forum who've eaten out of date foods still alive and well to prove it !!0

Hi folks.
I am paranoid about Use By dates. I have some chicken thighs in the fridge and the Use By Date is today, can I cook them tomorrow?A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Hi Loublue,
I would use them if they look and smell ok when you open them tomorrow. If you have any doubts then bin them.

I don't think sugar has a use by date.
When I used to check the dates at work, I think this was one of the few products that didn't have a date.0 -

Why not cook them today if you are worried, then eat them tomorrow?
