'Just noticed another vacuum packed meal of mine (best before August 2OO7) - an Indian Cuisine meal that you heat and eat. It's main ingredient is paneer (cottage cheese) with cream and butter too. Is it right, (as I have been told), to not "risk" eating this?0

Don't know if this is any use but 'best before' dates are usually on foods where the taste/appearance etc will/may start to be affected after the printed date (lots of dried goods are still ok well past their best before dates). You find 'use by' dates on perishables/high risk items. Having said that your meal is now 9 months out of date, I would probably bin it.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

troll35 - Thanks for the reply. I wondered if the dairy ingredients would make it unadvisable to consume and also whether the vacuum packed nature of the product would make it any 'safer'?0

I'll add this to your other thread to keep all suggestions about vacuum packed food and sell by dates together.

Sealed and airtight bags/jar should last for a long time, and wouldn't have been touched by the rats - well not inside of course. Anything not so well stored would be best disposed of.
As for the sunflower seeds, if they are still in their hulls they will keep for years and years, as seeds in nature can stay dormant for decades or even centuries and then when they are blown onto suitable soil they will sprout and take root. However, I like the idea of giving them to our feathered friends.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

When I read the thread title, I automatically thought it would be about the best questions to ask someone before going on a date!!!

Hi - my husband bought some chicken legs yesterday that I was going to cook today for a party tomorrow. However, I've just got them out and realised the use by date is today. Will they still be okay to eat tomorrow if I cook them today? Are they still safe after the use by date if I've cooked them by that date or do I have to have eaten & cooked them by the use by date? Thought I had the whole use by/ best before thing sussed but am now confused!0

They should be fine if you cook them today and eat tomorrow, just make sure you cook them thoroughly0
-
I would cook them today & quite happily eat them tomorrow.0

I would cook them today keep them in the fridge soon as cool enough and use them tomorrow.
