This discussion shouldn't be in this sectionBills are minimal in her flat.... Carry on. You're the one who thinks it could be done cheaper. If she moved into a private rented flat it would be more expensive for rent. So that would negate that saving. Any other worldly advice there?
And no doubt she should have to give up her low cost council accommodation to take a higher priced shared place... Not to mention what she's already spent on it. What would she do with her furniture she has purchased to go into a shared property? What would she do with her cat? PTS? Remember none of us know what's round the corner. It could happen to you tomorrow.

Indeed it shouldn't. However, you are the one questioning it.
To the OP.
The best thing you can do, is put your income in the benefits calculator at entitledto.co.uk and put a single rate in for ESA. As this was calculated as an ESA/JSA entitlement. I'm sorry I'm not sure if the rates are different for people with a partner or not.

I don't know much about Tax Credits BUT are you saying your wife is too ill to look afer your children whilst you work?
If this is the case then perhaps you can get your childcare paid for (ie the remove the 2nd adult for childcare).
I don't know if this is the case - perhaps those who are more experienced can answer - but this would give you childcare.0
