Can anyone help please?

Hi sorry this might be long

Currently my partner claims ESA,CTC,CB and HB/CTB She claims these for us a couple (she is the one who is sick) and we have 2 children under school age

ESA £111.50 a week
CTC £113 A week
CB £33.70 a week
HB £98.08 a week
CTB £17.81 a week

I have been offered a FT job working 37.5hrs a week at minimum wage (£6.08)

If I take this job will everything we currently receive stop?

If not does anyone know how much I would be *likely* to receive?

thank you

You will get working tax credits and maybe entitled to hb and ctb.

it sounds right (low income's get entitlement to HB and CTB), the idea is that working should always make you better off and you get WTC as now working.

Your wage would be £224.96 a week, you would also be able to claim some WTC in addition to the CTC and would still be eligible for some HB and CTB. You will need to inform the DWP as well as the council as the ESA may be affected under the new one year rule. You should not be worse off however by working and I'd like to say well done on getting the job offer, not easy in the current climate.

£374.09 - I assume your take on this is that this is an astronomical sum given your other posts but this does include their rent money and council tax costs which may well go direct to the council so is not what they receive to live on. For 2 adults and 2 children this is not a lot.

Rent/mortgage & council tax has to come out of wages too you know. Your net wage isn't all cash to live on.

£374.09 would be a wage of nearly £25,000 a year, to say that is "not a lot" is pretty disgusting to the millions on minimum wage earning half that & paying tax so these two can sit at home & the fit & healthy one can see if its "worth his while" working!

Over £250 a week disposable income after ct and hb - no work costs - nah your right it's clearly not enough - what amount would you suggest?
  • I don't normally make comments like this - and it's not personal to the OP, but it's just this whole scenario makes me want to cry :(

The OP's partner has £20 more coming in than me every week and I work 4 days - three, not on minimum wage, and one day voluntary work (hoping to lead to better things). I too have two children.

How can this be right??? :(
