HELP! Flights to Australia

That fare is not actually available on Lastminute (a common issue with that site IME). The cheapest flight they have from EDI is £1160.
Unless there's a ton of money to be saved, I would personally always book straight from the airline. Much less hassle if something goes wrong along the way.
Only the dodgiest 3rd party booker would book you on separate tickets with the airline having no responsibility of getting you to your destination in case of a missed connection. If you book from the airline in a single booking, everything will be one ticket and they will take care of you if something goes wrong on your trip. Doesn't matter if it involves different airlines.
As far as what happens should you be unable to travel, the cheapest fares are usually non-refundable and expensive to change (if they even can be changed). Will almost certainly be cheaper to get travel insurance for those sort of events rather than buying a flexible ticket.
That's not quite right, is it?

or leaving the day before:

Both bookable now on LastMinute.0 -
Are you getting those fares directly through Lastminute or are you searching through another engine? Because neither of them are available when I do the former. The cheapest actually bookable fare when leaving on Dec 30 is £1160, the cheapest when leaving Dec 29 is £1169.
I can find those fares you list through Kayak but if you try to book them you get the message that the airlines could not confirm your seat, essentially meaning the fare is out of date. Next time, check that the fare is actually bookable before listing it in here.0 -

They are both via lastminute.com. As you can see I went through the next stage of the booking process in order to confirm that they were available and printed you screenshots to show that they are able to be booked. Note the differing screenshot.
Did you imagine that the single available seat in the class would wait for you?
So please, don't be irritating. The fact that you are incapable of running a cursory search does not give you licence to pour scorn upon my efforts.0 -

Calm down, I wasn't scorning your efforts, all I'm saying is that I don't get any of those options when doing a search through Lastminute.com. Assuming Flopper doesn't either, they are of no help to him unless you explain how you get them.
In any case, I still question whether those fares are in fact available. Lastminute makes it clear in their T&C that making a booking is to make "an offer" for a flight. Lastminute will then confirm with the airline that the seat can be provided (standard policy with 3rd party bookers). If you are finding a flight through some round-about way that doesn't show up anywhere else, chances are that it's not available. Just something for the OP to take into account.0 -

Yes, and I can get to that "next stage of the booking process" as well (back about 1 minute after you posted it) - but when you go any futher it's not available. For every single one of the flights you posted at the time...0 -
Have a look and see if any of the airlines offer a Quidco cashback."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Wow....two of them!
The OP isn't complaining. Just a couple of Nosey Parkers who don't even need the flights. There was no special way of searching.
You can see clearly on the screenshot that I've entered my personal details.
Did you manage to get that far?
Don't embarrass yourself further..... please.
One minute after I posted it? Were you up at 2.04am?
Someone is telling porkies...0
