Been to see the mortgage man. His opening line was "I didn't expect to see you again". Good job I've got more faith in me than he has!!!! No, he didn't expect the mortgage to be approved.:D
    But it has :D
And he was rather pleased with himself:D
Infact I think he thought he's managed to part the waves :T

Went through the paperwork and the lack of fees and the reduced survey fees due to going through their surveyor. I gave him a credit card in two pieces for my part :beer:It's all starting to look a little less tight and a bit more doable.
I will be getting a Monday to Friday lodger pretty much as soon as I move in, or as soon as I have checked out the demand and bought a bed.

So at the end of the appointment he asked if I would be willing to take part in a survey on how the process had been, and had it been good and was I pleased.
    I said "Yes".
He said "I'll take that as a compliment".
I said "I'm trained this way, you should meet my dad!" :rotfl:

So I've just cancelled the surveyor, meaning I will save about £250 on that cost.
The fees are included in the mortgage so I will pay them but not upfront (and it's about £30 difference in total). I think the conveyancing costs are much reduced too.

He's just quoted me for house and contents insurance of £11 a month including legal cover and accidental damage, which seems ridiculously cheap or very competitive (depending on whether you are quoting me or him!).

Have bought two tins of chickpeas (£1.10) as part of my post-Berlin frugal diet for the next fortnight. Now going to get a bottle of wine and chill for the evening .

When can I start packing? :T

I was amazed at that. My house and contents used to be about £27 a month.

I think he was used to the old way, when an application going off to the underwriters was like an old dog going to the vets: They're only coming back in an urn...

What's more doable - the move itself, or the mortgage/living expenses?

Now I would have thought your previous lodger would have scarred you for life as far as that goes... :rotfl:

He probably can Beanie - and you may want to ask about insurance as well while you're there...

Ah...but where did you use to live?

That's probably a big chunk of the difference.

So peepsies, The totals are not looking too shabby

    HBOS CC £1430 [STRIKE]£1378 [/STRIKE]£1300 outstanding

I haven't got my calculator on me so I can't tell you the percentage I have paid off! DOH.

I can tell you I now make the total £10,758 :T.
I'm nearly under £10 k but I think that will be a couple of months away.

The house is nearly there so I am going to have a couple of months focusing on the overdraft and the savings to try and build in some flexibility just incase the whole thing starts moving at break neck speed.

On other money saving news...I have a voucher for the train and I have a journey planned :D
I'm going up north. Going to see Pop on Friday and stay with a friend, have booked a room for £41 in a pub on the North York Moors for Saturday and will come back Sunday. Going to two do's on Saturday and haven't told anyone I'm coming . Hope they don't change the venue or something. Taking my bicycle  (what can go wrong!) so I can cycle the four miles between the afternoon and evening venue. Seriously what can go wrong!!!

The last time I went up the train was three hours late so I have a voucher for £71 and the train journey in total is £80. Bargain :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

    Quite excited.
