So, how big does a company have to be before you decide whether to be honest and own up? Such dishonesty only comes back to everyone in higher prices. If you sent someone a present, but put the wrong house number on it, would you be happy if the person who actually received it, kept it?

As for making a profit out of hard to get hold of items, I have no problem with that. After all, these are not essential items. No-one is forcing people to pay over the odds. They do it just because they want to be first to have it or can't be strong enough to say no to the demands of their children, so more fool them.

If I wrote the wrong number on a parcel and didn't check it I would be an idiot.
Not only do you have the chance to check when wrapping but you get a receipt with the wrong number on when you hand it over.

I agree that no-one is forcing anyone to buy luxury item off Ebay but in all fairness they wouldn't have too if they were not bought in bulk by scammers in the first place.

I dunno how big the company has to be it's not happened to me yet, I'll decide when it does but Argos is certainly big enough. I don't have a problem with people returning things, just think it's your decision and an exceptionally high moral standard gets you nothing but robbed, attacked and dead in this pathetic excuse for a country, keeping an incorrectly sent item is the least of any moral banner wavers problems.

There are some truly shocking posts on this thread! If I am not mistaken the OP only ordered 2 in the first place (not 200). The moralistic replies I have read sound more like jealousy!
2 years ago I ordered from Argos some childrens toys. Due to some internal cockup and confusion they did not arrive in time. I cancelled the order and then was refunded. 3 weeks later the toys arrived.
I kept the box and waited to hear from them. I never did. Eventually I gave them to the children.
If these companies operate in such a poor way with such dreadful communication, then that truly is their own look out. I am very sure the spotty kid at the end of the Argos helpline is not going to be thinking 'Thankyou so much kind customer for your thoughtful call, we'll collect the item asap'
They will be thinking "you pillock-you could've kept that!" I am pretty sure Argos are insured against loss and order mistakes.

I am not a thief, but if a little bonus comes my way I am not averse to it.

I do find it really annoying that scammers get hold of bulk amounts of things and sell them on ebay (esp concert tickets-GRRR) but they are not going to stop because a bunch of little MSE usesr get all high and mighty because one person posts about the accidental delivery of a games station. This thread seems to be an excuse to have a bit of a pop for no reason.

I would not have called you an 'a***hole'.

Parasitic scum would have been more appropriate.Gosh yes what a truly terrible person, on a level with rapist or murderer?

What certain individuals did with the Wii, trying to profiteer out of children at Christmas was plain and simply disgusting.Too a point, but not the OP. And it's pretty sad that children are this obsessed with a games station. It is not the children who were profiteered but the sad parents who allowed their children to manipulate them. Personally I told my children they could wait as I wouldn't pay silly ebay prices!

And it is a sad reflection on collapsing standards in our society today.
Oh truly, what has the world come to-a man ordered 2 PS3's and then cancelled them. Filth.

People who do what you do are no better than Loan Sharks.Yes of course.

You clearly state your own lack of morals, standards and ethics by making your original post in the first place.Good grief-how amazing are you? I didn't read his post and realise he had no morals, standards or ethics-are you actually telepathic?

'Can I effectively steal this PS3 ?' , you hadn't paid for it and you knew who it belonged to.The OP was asking people thoughts and advice. Fair play to him. He had not indicated what he actually intended to do. And you have no right to accuse him of having no standards or morals.

Like picking up somebody's wallet in the street and not returning it.Not really is it. Argos is not little old lady with her pension, its a massive company who have soo much trade they don't even realise they are sending out expensive PS3's that have not been paid for.

Theft is theft !!Goodness a true genius!
You have made my day with your enlightening post. Gosh I think I've seen the light and become a better person already.

    I am not a thief,

If you did not inform Argos of their mistake, then in the eyes of the law, you are.

In North Korea maybe. In Britain you couldn't be more wrong.

Actually, I meant by my very nature I am not a thief. I do not go around on th rob. I did think that some anal MSE member would be along sooner or later to condemn me as a truly terrible person for keeping them, but to be honest, their phonelines are not free and I felt at the time the responsibility was in fact theirs. I kept the box for about 5 months, waiting under the stairs, and I have never ever heard anything. Why should I pay for their mistake. I assumed that the delivery department would somehow cross reference delivered parcels with payments and that sooner or later a phonecall or letter would appear.
I think in the eyes of the law, if I was taken to court about such a ridiculous incident that I would not actually be a thief.
