BT gave him the MAC and he passes it onto meGordon_Hose wrote: »Why is your landlord paying for BT line rental for a phone he can't use???
I don't know. he is adamant that he is keeping it under his name etc.:mad::mad: and he does not want the BB to be cancelled because he insist that there is a reconnection charge, even after BT has said that there wouldn't be one!:mad::mad:0 -
You won't be able to get broadband in your name on his line. He'll have to sort it out for you, or you'll have to use his.0

I didn't know that you could put broadband on hold? I reckon that it is still live but no router connected.
Do BT have a simple system for the username & password? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Or that, but they'd have to get the LL's permission first. And he/she doesn't sound the most helpful.0

As long as you don't incur extra broadband charges he's not really going to know.
BT use the phone number to authenticate. See http://btybb.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7447/~/how-do-i-set-up-my-non-bt-router%3FThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
But it's his house, they need to ask permission to install an additional phone socket.0

I don't believe that you need the LLs permission to get a phone line installed.
As things stand, as far as the OP is concerned, there is effectively no phone line in the property. I see no reason why the op can not go ahead and get a new line installed. i am sure that there are some line providers who do not insist on a 12 month contract. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Of course you do. If you didn't he could charge them for putting it back to how it was before the OR engineer installs an additional phone socket.0
