bringing my O2 BB to a property currently being supplied by BT

I am currently with Post office for landline and o2 for broadband. I have moved to a new property which is currently being supplied by BT for landline and broadband.
The landlord wishes to keep his landline and is happy for me to move my broadband onto the phone line. BT has given me a MAC for me to move my broadband across. He does not want to cancel the service.
PROBLEM: when i gave o2 the MAC, o2 insisted that they cannot switch an existing contract across using a MAC. I was told that the MAC only works for new connections and landlord will have to cancel his BT broadband in order for o2 to move my contract across. However, when i cantacted BT, BT insisted that the service can be switched across using the MAC.
I've been calling BT and o2 back to and fro but am not getting anywhere. The landlord is adamant not to cancel the broadband (despite em offering to pay the £30 cancellation charge).
can someone please advise me on what to do?
Thanks.

So the LL already has BB ? Does he live in the property ?
You do realize you can only have one BB service per phone-line ?
It's a bit confusing -(and I work with BB)
If the LL isn't resident then why would he need to cancel his BB ?
If you aren't in contract with 02 I don't see the benefit of staying with them.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
hi thanks for the quick reply.
- the landlord does not live at the property. The landline and broadband is in his name. He is no longer tied in contract and is using BT services on 'rolling basis
- I have just moved into the property. I have cancelled my Post office landline, and I am still in contract with o2 (tied in until march 2013).
-The landlord is happy for me to move my 02 BB service onto his landline0 -
i am basically wanting to remove the landlord's BT BB service and use my O2 BB on the landlord's existing landline..
BT has given me the MAC, but o2 says that in order to move my EXISTING service, I'd need BT to cancel the account. O2 told me that a MAC is only for new connections. .0 -
Why don't you order a new O2 BB service at the new address and then you could use the MAC?
Cashback deals are available to offest any cancellation charges on your old O2 account.

So what you are trying to do is a Home Move with O2 onto a new number?
In that case a MAC does not apply, as it is for transferring to a different provider on the same number. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
yes - i am trying to do a home move on my o2 BB to my landlord's number.
the cancellation charges are £80 to cancel my o2 account0 -
Who is paying for the phone line, phone calls and BB at the new address ? How is it "his" landline when you are the tenant ?0

he is paying for the landline, and the broadband is currently on hold. If we want to use it, we will have to pay him for it.0

To clear something up, the MAC code you have is for your landlords existing BT Internet service, and you are trying to change the service to O2 in your name, but for an existing contract that you have in your name??
If so then O2 are correct. If you are in a contract with O2 and wanting to move it to this new landline then at the very least the landlord will have to cease his broadband service, and you will have to arrange with O2 for a 'home move' to put your broadband contract onto that landline.
You cannot use the MAC - that would only be a valid procedure if you were the landlord moving to a new provider in his name.
To add to this normally the landline account holder and the broadband account holder are the same person - O2 would normally ask you if you were the landline account holder before agreeing to provide broadband over that phone line.
I think the landlords insistence that he continues to pay for the line rental is going to scupper your attempt to move your existing account. What is his concern? Is he afraid of losing the phone number or something? Most landlords would do anything to reduce their costs rather than voluntarily pay for landline rental!0 -
PS. How come BT is talking to you about you landlords account and giving you his MAC code?!0
