    Thanks, BitterAndTwisted.

In recent years, it doesn't matter what part of my life I look at, there seems to be some blasted wasteland of misery to gaze across.

Personal, health, family, employment - all near total disaster zones.

I have a few good friends out there - I had to get fired to find that out though and I've received advice and encouragement from these forums too. :)
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

There is to be a brief pause in the sale as we transfer the deeds to the house to all our names to take advantage of three Capital Gains tax allowances.

Brother 1 has done a stonking job on the house and, as we are dealing with semi-professional/talented amateur property developers, we don't expect much by way of hassle from the buyers end.

Brother 1 and his wife, like me, are in some financial stress atm due to a lot of the money they're earning going into the house and flat renovations and Brother 1's wife is still very unhappy about the situation. She still doesn't want to move.

At least the buyers have said that Brother 1 can rip out the kitchen and take it back to the flat. The tenants did a real number on the flat and even though they forfeited their deposits, it wasn't really enough to cover the repairs.

    As you were.

After HMRC stuck it's almighty oar in again, we are finally on the move with distributing the estate.

As the house alone sold for considerably more than it's initial probate valuation, CGT became payable.

Time out was taken for Brothers 1, 2 and I to all have our CGT allowances used to minimize the amount of CGT to pay - this took time. And money.

Then, having received a massive chunk of money from the solicitor for IHT and CGT, HMRC decided it wanted to go over the estate accounts with our representative (solicitor) to ensure we hadn't got it wrong/tried to diddle them.

Yesterday, a cheque arrived for an interim payment. Two thirds of my inheritance with the remaining 1/3 to come after HMRC has finished.

    Yay.

Now I've got to deposit a cheque for hundreds of thousands of pounds into a bank account without the bank thinking I'm a money launderer.

If the money had been paid in by BACS transfer, my account would have been frozen immediately.

    This is easier apparently. :rotfl:

At least you can now see the wood for the trees. Good luck and perhaps take some time to enjoy some me time after all the stress. I would book a long holiday.

Have you been told this by the bank?

I paid a cheque for several thousand pounds into my bank account two years ago with no issues at all (except that the bank's ears pricked up and they wanted to know whether I wanted a mortgage!).

I don't really see how receiving several hundred thousand pounds that legally belong to you can be anything but good news...
