That was a scary read. :(

not unexpected tho, i think in general most of us old stylers will be ok, but i would expect to see a rise in the number of "i've no money til payday what can i make from what i have in threads"

It didn't meant cereal which is bound to go up aswell, i might grab a few bags of porridge just incase.

Hi guys I have been reading your thread this morning and WOW it is so inspirational:D I have only got to page 16 though lol

I saw people were doing a shopping list so I thought I would share mine. I had already done my meal plan and the shopping. But out of fun I looked at what I could get if I had nothing in. I am lucky that I keep a very good stock cupboard and have 2 freezers which I fill with bargains so most of this I didn't buy this week. I also don't buy much value ( after seeing prices I am going to start!!)

My menu is to feed 5 people and I think it is fairly healthy please let me know what you think.

Shopping List - all from Tesco

    Value Coleslaw - 0.20p
    Counter streaky Bacon 2 rashers - 0.40p
    Value cornflakes - 0.31p
    Value cheddar - 1.77p
    risotto rice - 0.99
    sandwich chicken - 0.50
    value rolls - 0.35
Value beef stock cubes - 0.10
    large chicken 5.00
    passata 0.29
    2 pints milk 0.89
    value spread 0.75
    lasagna sheets 0.39
    1 onion 0.21
    4 x pitta bread 0.80
    value mince 1.56
    value eggs (15) 1.25
    3 x baked beans 0.78
    potatoes 0.69
    sausages 0.56
    2 x mixed frozen veg 1.50
    value veg oil 1ltr 1.29
    plain flour 0.52
    caster sugar 0.97
    frozen bluberries 1.75
    Stuffing 0.15
Total £23.47 if budget is £28 plenty left over for fruit

    my menu is

    Wednesday
    B - Blueberry muffins
    L - Veg soup
D - Toad in the hole, mash and beans

    Thursday
    B - Blueberry muffins
    L - Egg and soldiers
    D Shepherds pie

    Friday
    B Blueberry muffins
L Pittas stuffed with shepherds pie
    D baked bean lasagna

    Saturday
    B Pancakes
L leftovers of shepherds pie and lasagna
    D Meatball rolls

    Sunday
    B pancakes
L Roast chicken, veg, potatoes, stuffing and gravy
    D Pittas

    Monday
    B pancakes
    L Pittas
    D Risotto (chicken and veg)

    Tuesday
    B Cereal
    L Leftover risotto
D Chicken and bacon quiche, baked potato and coleslaw #

With MY shopping yesterday I went at just the right time and picked up 5 packs of kingsmill pancakes at 1p each (I can't make them for that price) and 4 packs of pittas at 2p each. Also I got a huge lot of fruit all for under £2 Like I said I had most of this in and I tend to use fresh rather than frozen vegetables but for when things get really tight (we have a very tight month next month) It was very interesting to see how I could get my shopping bill down without changing our menu.

What I didn't include in the menu plan is that I make all of my own bread, granola and for snacks we have fruit and the cake tin is always full.
    £370/£300 April challenge :T:T

    That is great sillyinthepast :T
I must say that I enjoyed working out a menu plan as well :D But as you say with the prices going through the roof it is a skill we should all brush up on. Not £7 probably, that is very very tight. But £20 a week is doable.Hmmmm maybe that should be the next challenge :D

BB why don't you start a thread and we'll see what we can all do :) i think if we did it here it would be lost in the other £7 posts.

Never thought of that! Having a case of the brain fuzzies today but just upped my usual order for porridge. Might look into getting some more flour/yeast in too. Dust of the ol' loaf tins lol.

Can you confirm this is a challenge rather than a specific menu plan for someone so should we just post out weekly shop with prices?
