been into the bank this afternoon to close my account totally, was told by the manager of the Huntingdon branch i would not be charged the fee, and if i was it would be reimbursed, then reading this post, i see i have a black square in the bottom left hand corner, the plot thickens!, the only added extra i have used is the AA, and on this site tonight i see with a cashback deal you may be able to get the same cover for £9, £30 maximum, so sod the lot of them i'm off to Santander for their 123 Cashback account paying 3% interest
Why not just downgrade the Gold account to a classic vantage also paying 3% interest but without the hassle of switching banks?

It's the Black Square that means you've been "Black Balled" for charges. A back circle means they can still afford to provide the benefits for free.

If I dont switch I am downgrading to Classic but I already have the max 3 vantage classic accounts as well as a once "free" Gold account.

I have drafted a letter of disgust to the CEO of Lloyds which I intend to take to show my Branch Manger before posting it if he doesn't pull a rabbit out of the hat to keep my custom.

It seems the "unaffordable" increased cost of the account benefits are affordable to some people but not others. It's a commercial decision, but after 3 generations of banking with Lloyds it still stinks something rotten.... even more so as they only survive becasue of my tax payer bail-out money.

I have the letter with the black circle and no mention of the monthly charge.

Would be interesting to know how they select those that are to pay the fee and those that aren't

Ah, well that's the million dollar question and one that will almost certainly never be answered, just as why do some LLoyds customers receive preferential rates on savings accounts.

We can guess, but we'll never really know !
