A buyer trying it on

I sent some an item to a buyer on 10/07/2012 at 12:29 via Parcelforce. It got there on the 11/07/2012 at 11:20 and has been signed for by herself (I've checked the name matches that on PayPal and it does). Today the buyer sent me a message saying

'hello.sory i missing yuo items ..... whe is.....???????'

It was a large box weighing over 2KG so it's not like she could have forgotten about it. Do some buyers think you're stupid and will just refund or do you think she could be genuine?

Why do you assume the buyer is trying it on. Just because the name matches does not mean the named person signed for it. I know you may be shocked to hear this but sometimes other people sign for goods and even shock horror postmen have signed for goods before.

Contact the buyer link them politely to the proof of delivery.

I'd email her the link for the signing and say 'you signed for mine at 11:20 on the 11th, perhaps you are thinking of a different item?'.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Perhaps I'm wrong and she isn't trying it on and if so I will apologise. It just seems funny to me.

That is what I would do as well.

From the experiences of people on this board and the official boards, scammers usually only wait until they receive the item before they start claiming INR. Ten days or so and it's likely to either be confusion with another seller or genuinely gone missing.

Also, generally, scammers don't try it on signed for items.

    No probs.

It does happen from time to time, particularly if stuff gets signed for and left outside.

I never get asked to sign for RD, only SD. Last night Parcelforce came with a stamp album I'd ordered. But mostly stuff just gets left outside our doorstep if we're not in. That's fine when it's a house like ours, in a rich, rural area set back from the main road down a private lane (causes havoc with pizza deliveries). But not so good in other areas.

People have had parcels left in wheelie bins before.

Good luck - hope it gets sorted. It's absolutely possible that they have got you mixed up with someone else - don't betray too much suspicion until you have reasonable proof they are acting fraudulently.

Buyer has sent a message this morning saying she still hasn't received the item. What should I do next? Parcelforce track and trace is showing it as delivered and signed for by the person I sent it to so I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I'd say 'No idea 'buyer name'. I have posted it and it is signed for by someone with your name. Obviously I wasn't there at the time to witness it but if it goes to Item Not Recieved and I show them the proof of delivery then ebay would find in my favour. Have you asked everyone in the house if they have signed for it? I am not sure I can explain how someone at your address signed in your name for a package addressed to you. What are you expecting me to do?'
