I don't understand either. Search Google, wait 0.14 seconds for a list of over seven million potential results, ranked according to probable relevance; search MSE, and wait till some human can be bothered to type a sentence or two, which may or may not help. It seems strange to me that one would choose the latter before trying the former...
Trust me, there are two and a half thousand posts of mine which have absolutely nothing to do with digital TV. However, as I visit the site all the time, this part of the forum can be a useful diversion.
What I'm getting at is that asking here is asking people of generally like minds rather than some random website or simple Google search.

I agree, especially with their severely over-priced set top boxes.

There is a huge markup on these, ignore the rrp when they actually launch and supplies become stable prices will drop very quickly.
  • I suppose these m/c's still require 2 inlets like a sky box does.....

No they don't, terrestrial aerials are not the same as satellite dishes.
A freeview Plus box with a twin tuner needs a single standard aerial input.
YouView and other boxes with a catch up service also need a broadband connection.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

But it's surely poor marketing to launch at such a high price in the first place? It's hardly new technology, which would have the "early adopters" queuing up for, is it?

All a case of supply and demand. Its a bit difficult to subsidise your boxes when the service is itself free. BT and Talk Talk will be offering subsided boxes as part of their broadband TV and Phone packages.

What high price? its high quality 500gb HD twin tuner and trade price is a couple of quid more than the comparable freeview HD Humax, rrp at present is £40 more, for a whole lot more functionality.

I agree, but it's also difficult to flog your new service if the advance outlay is so large.

But will enough people think this represents good value for money?

By the way, I'm not arguing that the boxes are quality, but more that the broadcast service is being launched in an already crowded marketplace.

RS sell a 500GB Humax FV+ box for £150 which is half the price of the Humax 500GB YouView box. Is £150 for catch-up TV which Sky and Freeview will be offering for free soon, good value? I get mine through a £30 Raspberry Pi running XBMC.
