£26k net is the rough equivalent of £36k gross pay. When the national average wage is what? £25k? I don't know how they can justify paying anyone not working £26k in benefits. It's disgraceful.

The bottom line is, no one on benefits should take home more than someone who works. Full stop. It's just so wrong.

Benefits should provide the bare essentials only. If your benefits enable you to afford Sky/Cable, a mobile phone, a laptop, internet, PS3 or whatever, then you are being given to much!

I totally agree, but a complication arises where children are involved. A couple both working on minimum wage with one child will definately not be better off than a non working couple with 5 kids or else people will scream child poverty!

And isn't the definition of child poverty something to do with how big your telly is, or how many games consoles you have? If your telly is only 32" and you've got a Wii but not a PS3 then your child is in child poverty. :rotfl:

That's the only way I can can see to explain how it's possible for those families living on benefits to have a better standard of living than those in work.
You had me at your proper use of "you're".
