O2 contract expired
I have an iPhone 4 and my 24 month contract has expired. I would like to move to simplicity sim only contract but how do I do this easily? Do I just call O2 and ask them to switch me over? Do I get the sim online and cancel existing?
Dont want to screw it up and lose my number!
Thanks

call them up, threaten to leave, see what they offer - they might offer you up a better sim only deal than those you see online.
You won't lose your number if you call up and transfer your account - they usually do it pro rata too if you want to immediately start.
Make sure you don't get hooked into a long term sim only deal if you don't want it. You can check out your upgrade options online through My o2 so you have a rough idea what to push for from retentions.

Yes, ask them to move onto simplicity the same date your minimum comittment expires, When I had my K850i, like you I was happy with the phone and no need to 'upgrade' I swapped to simplicity and have had that for years now, the great thing with sim only is that getting a handset sim free, 'forces' you to assess if the next handset is worth it or not and you retain a smaller monthly bill which is what you see, as opposed to taking a one off hit on a new handset purchase.0 -
What makes you thionk your contract expired? If you mean it was the minimum term, your phone will carry on as before, and you'll need to provide 30 days notice to cancel.0

That's exactly what happened to me! I posted about it in another thread (but can't link to it, can't post links yet)
I went online and was pretty annoyed to see i had been put on a 12-month SIMplicity contract! Luckily, I was on day 7 of my seven-day cooling off period
That's really cheeky! I had said I will almost certainly get the next generation iphone later this year; the lady on the phone said that would be no problem. However, I wish she'd have told me that I would locked into o2. (I probably will stay with o2 anyway, but if Three offer more data, I might be tempted to switch)
I have posted a screenshot of the special deal that o2 gave me:
(it a £6 loyalty discount to give me 500MB of data. I would accept this if it was a 30-day contract, i don't want a 1year contract!)0 -

Hey did you do this? I hope they didn't trick you into taking out a 1-year contract!

is o2 simiplicity the best on the market?0 -

If you login to your account at o2.co.uk, it will tell you exactly when your contract expires.
o2 dont tell you, they probably hope you won't notice and keep giving them the inflated price. (inflated, because it's subsidising the handset cost, that handset which you now 100% own)0 -

Probably it is the best you can get at O2.0 -
I am pretty sure it isn't unless you get some special deal.
Probably it is the best you can get at O2.
yeah, it seems that Giff Gaff are far better.
My only concern is the next iPhone will be accounced on 12 Sep and I will want to buy it ASAP. Will o2 have me back?- I don't have any sort of credit card or overdraft with anyone - the only thing I have ever got, that resembles credit, is my o2 contract, which I've had since about 2008.
Once I'm with Giff Gaff, I will need a PAC again to move to whichever network has the best deal on the iPhone 5 (or whatever it's to be called). Will Giff Gaff give me a PAC after being with them for just a few weeks?0 -

"will O2 have me back"
Of course they will!! You are no credit risk and they want your money LOL
Whether you will be " first in the queue" for an iphone5 if you don't have an existing contract may be an issue, but is it really that important to you to have it the day it's out? I'm an apple fan (though actually trying andoid now so I can make a clear choice rather than sheeping...) But I've outgrown the rush to have it all first. Let someone else get the hardware issues/software glitches etc out of the way first!
Also put the £ you are saving by being SIM only (I'm on the £10 giffgaff so maybe saving £26 or more a month vs O2 tariff!) into a pot and thing about buying your next iphone outright and never having a contract tie in again.0
