Should have asked this earlier - if you have any form of insurance, with legal protection attached, it may be used to fund your legal costs. I used the legal protection insurance with my buildings/contents cover to pay the costs for taking a previous employer to the employment tribunal. Even had a barrister at the tribunal (he didn't wear a wig
).
Good luck0 -
Just catching up Lozz and didn't want to rush by without leaving a message. My thoughts are with you, you are doing your best for your mum, I wish my patients all had daughters like you!0

Hi all,
Sorry it has been a while but was very busy looking after my mum and didn't have time to even shower at times!
Thanks Colin I don't think I need legal help, but if anything unexpected crops up I will bear it in mind.
Hi neverenough, thank you. Mum came home on the Saturday after I left my last message and she spent 16 days here with us, with her family, and being fed finally. She had carers and district nurses several times a day and I'm am so glad I made that decision. She had all her favourite foods and we made sure her tv was tuned to her favourite programmes, plus lots of family hugs.
Unfortunately over last weekend her pain got too much to cope with and she was transferred to our local hospice on Monday. They very swiftly gave her what she needed and she is now in an induced coma and peaceful. Her consultant thinks it will only be a few days now, but I will always thank God that she didn't spend her final weeks in that nursing home.
Thank you for all your messages, they really have helped me through a tough time.

Dear Lozz,
I just dropped by to see if you had posted an update, which of course you have....
I'm so sorry that your Mum has taken a downturn now; I know it was always a matter of when not if, but very sad nonetheless.
However, I'm so pleased that you stuck by your guns and got your Mum home for these last few weeks - as you say, so much better for her; and for you too. What a difference that will have made.
Wishing you and your family strength, and peace, knowing you did the best you could have done in difficult circumstances.
Best wishes xxx :A0 -
Well done, Lozz. I'm sure you'll all look back on that 16 days with happy remembrance, even though poignant. What should happen to all of us, in an ideal world.

You have been a wonderful daughter Lozz, if only many other elderly folk with terminal illnesses could have such love and care at the end of their lives.....
Thoughts and best wishes are very much with you at this difficult time where you have the pending loss of your beloved mum but also the immense relief of the end of the pain and suffering - such a difficult balance to deal with. Please come back and let us know how you are doing, its quite a journey. :A0 -
Thank you all so much, I will always be grateful I made the decisions I made.
Mum passed away last night, very peacefully and in the right setting. I can't praise the Hospice highly enough. We spent over an hour with her afterwards with lots of kisses and cuddles, it was special for all of us.
Thank you so much to all who have helped me through this, you are all wonderful people and I am so grateful for your support.
And to bring this thread back on topic, I never did get that COP, but heyho, it really doesn't matter any more.

Oh Lozz, I was checking frequently hoping you would let us know, however inevitable. What a blessing to have a so-called"good" death, surrounded by those who love you the most, including your only child- your mum is at rest and beyond pain now and I hope the memories will be good ones. Your decisions were selfless and in her interest, I wish all my patients had family who were as caring.
In the end, the COP really meant nothing, just like so many other stupid rules we make!
Lots of love, hugs and best wishes to your family on the loss of your mum and I 'm gald we were around at the right place and time even if it was just to share some of the thoughts you had about what to do.0 -
I have just read your thread and I am so touched that there are still people like you in the world. My heart goes out to you at this very sad time, the loss of a Mother is so very final. You were a wonderful, caring daughter to your Mother and you will be blessed. Thank you for sharing your concerns and indeed your story.0
