my sons girlfriend had paid for the whole year last october and paid 21.00 to change car details on monday .to change the car to my sons car in the morning then drive hers to midnight to allow her time to get car out and hers home.
they knew the story and the policewoman was being a jobsworth i heard her on the phone to the insurance its our policy for this and our policy for that.
she may have shut her window so we couldnt hear after my sons girlfriend gave permission for them to talk to the police .
then the police woman gave her the news her policy was cancelled and the smug look on her face like she had achieved something good hope it comes back on her .

Do your son and his girlfriend live together? Did she tell the insurers the new car wasn't hers? Did she declare your son's pending conviction? I don't think this is going to have a happy ending.

  • Did she inform the insurance company that the car doesn't belong to her?

Insurance companies won't usually issue/transfer a policy for/to a vehicle, which the policyholder doesn't have an insurable interest in.

To be fair, the poster you quoted called the OP on their punctuation rather than their grammar ;)

    You're right. Pedantry fail.

she did declare car was impounded they have it on a tape .
the insurance company have now been reported to the insurance omsbudman .
the police were the ones who influenced the insurance company to cancel her policy .

She changed it for the sole purpose of releasing the car from storage. The insurance company don't allow that. They cancelled her policy for breach of their terms.

Why doesn't your son just buy the insurance that he was going to buy on Monday?

Because now its going to cost ££££££££££££s. much cheaper to front it in the girlfriend's name. Oh, but that won't work either.

You will have to find the details as to why the insurance was cancelled. There are strict t&c's about how the insurer has to go about cancelling the policy, to avoid this very thing happening. If the insurance was accepted, and it sounds like it was done correctly, submit a claim in writing, for the costs you have incurred after it was cancelled, extra storage charges, her out of pocket expenses, and any cost to re-insure. If the company refuse, submit the complaint to the FOS.

Of course they do. If the cars insured, it's insured. Otherwise every car they impound would be in storage forever.
