MSE News: New Scottish Power tariff could spark energy price war

Anyway - who is this "average user" ?
We spend about £45 per month dual fuel (Scottish Power), we don't scrimp on heating and live in a large 3 bed semi....
Thats less than £550 per year - how can anyone spend twice this amount ?
Do they run their central heating 24/7/52 or leave their ovens on to heat the kitchen ?
I think it depends upon where you live. We pay £95 per month dual fuel, two people living in a 1930s double glazed 3 bed semi. We do not have the central heating on 24/7 but it is on during the day from 06.30 to 23.30 set to 18 degrees in summer and 20ish in winter. We like to be comfortable not to have to wear lots of layers and bundled up with scarves. We also have a combi boiler which uses more energy.
Our SP online energy 14 ends on 31 Aug and the new SP deal is £191 a year more so am hoping new deals come out soon0 -
This is good news for me. My NPower Go Fix 6 deal expires in a few weeks and I was seriously considering switching to EDF Blue Price promise due to the latest NPower offerings being very uncompetitive (based on my usage).
A little price war at this time would be perfect - providing they hurry up and get on with it as I need to start my move soon!
But on going through comp sites and also npowers own compare products all said energy online November 13 was best.
Phoned npower to change from 1st August and adviser said bill saver august 13 was best, on pointing out November 13 rates to him he then did admit Nov 13 was best choice for me.
So changing on 1st AugThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
I live in hope that it will prompt E.On into bringing out FixOnline 10 to compete.
Currently, the best E.On deal available is SaveOnline 12, which means (for high usage) a £200 annual increase when my SaveOnline 9 finishes in September.
The Scottish Power Online Fixed Price Energy November 2013 is a £93 increase for me. The £70 Cashback is interesting, but as I will pay £30 exit penalty if I switch before September, and start paying the higher rate earlier, it cancels out most of the £70 cashback.
I hope E.On has been making hay while oil prices were down, and been buying energy futures for the next year, which will allow them to bring out FixOnline 10, at a similar price to the Scottish Power deal.
No hurry, as FixOnline 10 couldn't possibly be cheaper than SaveOnline 9, I would prefer FixOnline 10 coming out on 1st September 2012, ideally lasting 18 months, so I have two winters covered.
I'm in the very same boat but my SaveOnline 9 finishes 16 August. I've just reread my plan renewal letter and it says there's no discounts on the final statement, I'm due a bill in the next week or two so will wait until after then.
I do hope this starts a price war as my bills are going up over £200 once saveonline 9 finishes :eek:0 -
I have been looking at the latest Scottish Power deal because I am long overdue a change of Energy supplier. Overall I have been quite happy with Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE), freephone customer service number, helpful and fairly competent staff and they will adjust the direct debits as I ask them and transfer any overpayment to my other fuel when I ask. The downsides are that the prices are not the best available and the only other was the annoying way that the person who called at my home and signed me up craftily asked for my phone number "in case we need to contact you about your account" and then proceeded to bombard me with unwanted selling of alarms, telephone lines etc etc. That almost made me ditch them. If you prefer very good service over the lowest prices then I would recommend SSE........just make sure that you don't give them your phone number under any circumstances!
I have been tempted by the EDF Blue deal, having no cancellation fee, freephone number and fixed prices is attractive, however the appalling billing and certain practices made me avoid switching.
Briefly looked at the Sainsbury's energy deal, ummed and arrred and then missed it,
That leaves the Scottish Power deal, the customer service number I am not certain about, there seems to be an 0845 for existing customers and an 0800 numbers which are sales but might get through to customer service. Not being a customer, it is difficult to know for certain. No cancellation fees are always welcome, fixed prices seem the way to go and the £70 cashback makes it even more attractive. Not a massive saving for me, just over £80 a year ATM until prices rise and the £70 cashback helps.
It's make my mind up time, although I don't see anything to lose ATM because I can always move suppliers if I'm not happy.0 -
How does the cashback work with MSE and MoneySupermarket, i normally use Quidco and TopCashBack?
Do I need to create accounts with each site prior to clicking through from MSE?
Thanks

Provided you click through the link to Moneysupermarket, and then switch, you'll get the cashback paid into the bank account you use to set up your direct debit. Not sure of the timescale but last time it was paid within 90 days.0 -
Could the days of the serial switcher be back lol?0

I would love to live in an area where mains gas is available. Instead I'm stuck with gas bottles at £60 for 49kg (cash on delivery).0

Scottish Power and probably other suppliers cannot take on customers with two meters (at same property but linked). Only E.On and one other offer this. Who is the other please?

As a customer of Scottish Power I could be interested in this tariff but it does not appear to be available to existing customers. Are some tariffs only available to new customers?0
