    Hi Arthur
Looks like you have been given a bit of a hard time by some of the other posters. Don't feel bad as I often get asked similar questions (and my profession involves giving people advice on employment matters). Do you and this other person do the same job or both carry out work of a particular kind? If not, then there is probably nothing you can do about it (as you are arguably not in the same situation).

Hard time, hardly a hard time.

Whoa! The OP was the subject of rudeness in the first place. Comments like "Your just jealous" do nothing to help and in the OP's situation I would be pee'd if someone on an internet forum felt their most worthy comment was something like the above.

Sure he maybe shouldn't have replied to it but note he was not the rude one in the first place.

The OP hardly endeared himself to others when he came out iwth the reply ive quoted, ok so maybe he wasn't rude in teh first place but no exscuse to be rude back is it.

Why all the tip-toeing around, being delicate about upsetting people and moaning about people's attitudes instead of focussing? Forums get so off-tangent because people act soft and pathetic.

Man up, take the blunt advice, and deal with it. Your have been treated fairly, typical council-worker attitude, the world owes me everything eh? Spend your efforts on looking for a new job instead.

It really depends on what you do I think, when my fathers company moved abroad, he was kept on in short bursts ("Pete, I know we said May but can you stay another six months?") for three more years because he ran their payroll, and he couldn't go until everyone else had gone and received their final cheque, if someone else stayed for any reason, they needed him still to keep arranging to pay them.

If you do an identical job it's different, but as far as I see, it's unusual for two people in the same office even to do a completely identical job, there's always something someone knows/does that another doesn't.

Where I once worked they made the person that paid the business rates redundant along with other admin HR staff etc..

Took a while to sort that one out.

arthurx1234 im in the same position 2day but what i think is for example they announce redunances for the whole group or department lets say 150 at risk and 20 will b chopped but reality of life is its not what u know its who u know so if 25 of the "at risk" live in same town village street of the decider then they are as safe as houses literally
