Some of the responses that the op received were rude. The first reply said that he was 'jealous' was that necessary??

Quite honestly I rarely post anything on these boards, I might browse some of the questions asked but thats all.

In my experience there are certain groups of people who are not liked or respected on these boards, namely public sector/local government workers and benefit claimants.

You have precisely two posts and one of them was about tesco mispricing. A hard time? Where?

Marybelle01 please show me my post that mentions tesco.

For some reason 50% of the people posting or commenting on this thread seem to be hell bent on criticising me.

I can hear the jungle drums as i type this " quick that bloke we all like to belittle and post "put down" comments is posting again lets bully him from the anonymous safety of our homes"

Just for info i will not be posting any further comments on this thread.

Thank you for the people who have taken the time to try and help

As for the others who are motivated and fully qualified to adversley comment on me after reading 2 of my posts, well let them post away, they must need the theraputic release posting nasty comments gives them

    bye bye

I don't think jealous was the right word but I certainly got the impression that the OP was narked that he got less notice time than another worker when he regards them as doing the same job (although the comment about there been problems on the other worker's section implies they don't work in the same section at all). Frankly it's bog all to do with him what another employee is given so long as both are lawful which they appear to be.

I don't think this has anything to do with whom the OP works for-he had a bad attitude and people responded accordingly-You reap what you sow on forums !

Just read the first post again.

The grounds for the grievence would have helped but

Well enough was enough so i have put in an official grievance and informed my union

just came across as a frustrated reaction to the situation without any checks that a grievence had any merit or was the correct action to take.

You did notice the huge big quote indicating that I was responding directly to Scuttler78 and it had nothing to do with you? No? Well you do seem to go off half-cocked and complain about things that you haven't checked first, don't you?

"Well enough was enough so i have put in an official grievance".

    What precisely was enough?

What were you agrieved about if it was not the apparently peferential treatmement given to someone else?

What do you understand the word "jealous" to mean?

For example, the online dictionary defines it as:

    1. feeling resentment against someone because of that person's rivalry, success, or advantages (often followed by of ): He was jealous of his rich brother.

    2. feeling resentment because of another's success, advantage, etc. (often followed by of ): He was jealous of his brother's wealth.

Just caught up to this thread. Perhaps jealousy was the wrong word but the intent is the same...but i think it is the correct word as it summarises what i've put below in one word:

You both are being made redundant... both have been given the minimum amount of notice (we guess) the only difference is the business has identified one individual as being required for a bit longer than the minimum notice period so has extended it.

As mentioned 40 people were made redundant at my workplace... paid for their notice period but one was kept on for 6 months longer (which was then extended to 9 months) so they could ensure a smooth transition. This was lucky for him as he had plenty of time to find a different job and was paid redundancy payout for 20 years service.

Nobody else who was made redundant raised a 'grievance' for this... it was just 'normal' practice. Its the business which decides who is needed or not needed and for how long.

As pointed out you seem to believe (incorrectly) that because he has been given longer so you should've too. This could happen but is totally up to discretion of business and not mandatory.

As for your attitude, others have pointed out your errors and you didn't want to listen. You should count yourself lucky really.. my wife turned up to work.. and all staff were sacked there and then as company went bust.... no notice period and minimal compensation from uk governemnt redundancy fund. Your situation sounds preferable to that. Should my wife raise a grievane because your situation is better?

Whoa! The OP was the subject of rudeness in the first place. Comments like "Your just jealous" do nothing to help and in the OP's situation I would be pee'd if someone on an internet forum felt their most worthy comment was something like the above.

Sure he maybe shouldn't have replied to it but note he was not the rude one in the first place.

In response to the"kick his bod when he is down" vultures who savaged my damaged carcass I have never been rude or called anyone jealous. 2 replies which attempted not to give me the lickings of a dog were posted within 30 minutes of my last post.

It really depends on what you do I think, when my fathers company moved abroad, he was kept on in short bursts ("Pete, I know we said May but can you stay another six months?") for three more years because he ran their payroll, and he couldn't go until everyone else had gone and received their final cheque, if someone else stayed for any reason, they needed him still to keep arranging to pay them.

If you do an identical job it's different, but as far as I see, it's unusual for two people in the same office even to do a completely identical job, there's always something someone knows/does that another doesn't.
