The best part of the whole documentary was Barclay's PR spokeswoman, what a joke! IMHO

The best bit for me was watching it with Mr S as he has a Barclays account.

Then they wheeled on the PR woman who talked about 'delighting' their customers. I asked Mr S if he was delighted but unfortunately his reply is not repeatable on a family website. :D

Okay, this is going to be controversial......

Yes, they have targets to meet. You wouldn't get to use the service of a bank account for free if they didn't make money in other places! They don't hand out bank accounts out of the kindness of their hearts, they have to sell people additions accounts and contents insurance, etc to make a profit! The UK is one of the only countries in the world when you don't have to pay a monthly fee for a bank account.

You mean all that interest they earn off our money when it's paid in isn't enough? Hardly something for nothing methinks, I get free banking, my bank gets to use my money, a fair exchange I think.

What really got my nostrils flaring about this programe was the pensioner who could not even afford a bed. He got turned down for a small loan then the heartless woman tried to sell him contents insurance. That's just disgusting, she must be a horlicks drinker! ;)
  • A quick point. Do not forget that while they are holding your money they are still recieveing interest on it at 6 % per annum or something like it from the bank of england !!!!!!

The banks make much more than 6% on any money that they hold. 6% is the rate they pay us for depositing it with them. the average investment over a 20 year period of investment in the stock market is apprx 20% and the banks just pocket the difference.

I love the fact that woman pronounces 'Barclays'... (which everyone I know says as "Bark Lees") as "Bark Laze".

    Posh or what?

I was shocked mainly by the internal issues. I had identity fraud commited and I assumed it was an 'outside job' however, watching that I would hazard a guess it was done via the bank.
I, for one, put far too trust in the banks at at the end of the day, the are just in it to make a buck!

Congratulations on becoming a more savvy consumer :money: . The sooner everyone realises that the banks are in it to make money like any business then maybe they will stop there shoddy tactics.

Its not just banks though I should think that do this but most businesses. Everyone needs to make money as thats how the world works. Its a human instinct to want to better oneself even if it is at the expense of others.

By simply refusing to confirm ANY of your details - they could be calling on a scam line from Nigeria.

I always ask for a UK geographical phone number (NOT 0870) and a VERIFIABLE full name of a person, and will ring them back and will only speak with that person.

It is absolute rubbish for them to say that they can not give you a full name. If the matter were to end up in court, then you would look a bit silly telling the judge that 'John' told you nothing was wrong.

Actually, this is true of many companies security policies - although some will give their full name. However, they are OLBLIGED to give you something that can identify them - such as a computer log on id
