Duncan0808 wrote: »Alpha, Duncans nuts, My hubby sometimes walks him in the morning before work (I don't do mornings at all). Then I always walked him in the evening after tea, pre CD, I would sit in front of the TV and have a cup of tea before we went. He would come up to me and keep sticking his nose in the mug to see if I had finished, once I had he would climb on my knee, (hes a big dog to do this) and stick his nose against mine and wag his tail.
Now he gets confused. I wait for my last meal until after walkies, so just follows me all night until I take him out!
We have a nature reserve at the bottom of our road thats lovely for dog walking and our estate is pretty quiet and good for dog walking, we usually do about 40 mins of a brisk walk.
At the weekends we used to go to the beach which is about 30 mins away, but he kept having these funny turns, which we have found out since are because he has a heart murmur, so he dosent get to run and run anymore, cos he dosent know when to stop.
I also bought a book of Wirral Walks, we have only done one so far, but they are good, showing you have far the walk is, places of interest, pubs and other places to stop on the way, you can get them for all over the British Isles, they are good fun.
Sounds like fun!! Poor Duncan! its hard explaining to them that they cant run anymorewe need to start doing more with ours because the pottery slow walk of the crippled one is not enough for the other and wont be enough for us because its quite slow. It is good for building her up though (the cripple) but i hate to split them up so dont know what to do... maybe buy her a pushchair or something so once she is tired the rest of us can march on
Lisa what are you having for your breakfast??If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
PS he sounds soooooo cute your Duncan with his 'finish your tea already mom' routineIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0

Thought for the day: In a 24 hr period 1lb of fat burns 2 calories whereas 1lb of muscle burns 14-16 calories. Keep up with the press ups, squats, crunches, lunges, any weight bearing activity.
I pinched this off my friends Facebook page - Gill is a superb personal trainer, (I can't afford her!), but thought you lot might find it interesting.0 -
We plan on going to the gym and building some muscle when we start to come off sole source. I used to be a serious gym bunny... i know i was 13stone but i was gyming sometimes twice a day, running 10miles three times a week, swimming, cycling! i was so active! then they made me stop. so of course i stopped everything (i also moved away from my amazing gym) and i tried to walk a bit but that habit never stuck. I want that alpha back
Also increase excercise!(long term/for life jobby) i think i may even keep drinking lots of waterIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -

I certainly will keep this in mind, I am going to start back walking first and then go from there.0 -
morning guys... gotta love the doggy stories...
alphafox - my boys aren't related at all... the one sitting upright is Moss, he is an old boy now, when we got him it was from a gamekeeper locally, and moss was honestly just wasted, he was past working prime so had gotten really fat and had poor sore paws, old bones and was in a right old state... but gamekeepers don't value the non working dogs so apparently this is normal, hence he was rehomed to us... 3 months later with a bit of exercise, different diet and a bit of TLC he was like a new dog! We didn't think we'd have him a year and we must've had him 4 years by now... we think he's about 10-11 years old.... he does have great breeding and papers n stuff apparently. if moss were a human he'd be the most laid back, toke smoking hippy there is, nothing phases him!
The gamekeeper who we got him off couldn't believe it was the same dog when he met us 6 months later...!
The other one is Brogan, we call him the Emo dog... he has issues! if he was human he's be locked in his room wearing eye liner and listening to dark and scary music...! he is scared of his shadow, very loving but very intimidated by people he doesn't know and other dogs..... we got him as a pup from another game keeper and he was the most outgoing puppy ever.... but he's full of angst now... very wierd!! Brogan is about 3 now i think.....
anyway, sorry for rattling on about the boys!!
i think what i meant tosay Alpha, is no they are not litter mates, but now they are brothers! bless them!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Maz like yours mine are now 'sisters'
The first one is the cripple, she is the slightly younger and is a very sweet try hard sort of dog. We dont know what is worng with her but she isnt sore with it (although she is lame!!) but i stopped the vets from doing any invasive testing!
The other is a real live wire and a total headcase. Always testing/pushing and challenging. Thos one is 'my' dog and the other is MrAlpha's dog.
I may work 'mine' to give her somehting to think about if i can get her attention for long enough
Your boys are gorgeous!!!:jIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
You have just got to love the dogs havent you, they are just so loving and forgiving and all have their own, very different personalities.
My husband keeps trying to get me to agree to take in other waifs, we had 3 dogs at one point, but our Duncan is so possesive and dosent actually understand hes a dog that I don't think it would work out.
Alpha, its a hard quandry, with one so active and one lame, I'm sure your lame one dosent believe she is either and would really miss getting out with the other.
Do you ever watch the dog whisperer, he puts dogs on the treadmill!!
Maz, thats a lovely story about your retired pooch, its amazing what a bit of love and attention can do isn't it.
And Lisa, you will have to post a pic of your cat so you don't feel left out while we talk about doggies.0 -
