    Here is the porridge recipe

Recipe for porridge courtesy of someone on minimins!

Put 1/2 pint of hot water in a measuring jug, add shake of your choice (my Fave is Banana) and whish with an electric blender. Add a dessetspoonful of the husks and quickly whisk again. Just enough to blend them into the mixture. Pour into a bowl. At this point it will still be quite runny but will thicken up as you eat it. Dont be tempted to blend it until it is thick or you will end up with wallpaper paste lol.

Has anyone actually tried this? I keep meaning to get some psyllium but don't want to waste my money! Is it nice, whats the texture like???

I buy psyllium husks from healthspan http://www.healthspan.co.uk/digestive_health/psyllium_husks_digestive_fibre_300g_tub/ProductDetail-p250-c1281857.aspx you get 300g for £6.95 & it's free delivery, & mine arrived in about 4 days.

I have never used them as porridge. I put 1 heaped teaspoon in each shake I make & it thickens my shake quite nicely. I have 3 shakes a day plus a bar and as result I no longer have the rather scary constipation problem which I had earlier on in the diet :o . I would say a 300g tub lasts me roughly about month.

I find that when I make a shake with husks & leave it to stand for a few minutes, the mixture tends to thicken more towards the end of the glass. I guess this is what the porridge is like, the husks are completely tasteless and therefore there is no change in taste only the texture which I would liken to ready-brek.

I think they are a bargain if only to alleviate my toilet trauma but they also make my shakes taste better too! I would definitely recommend them!!

    Discipline ! I need Discipline!

Your are right ClaireLR, bite the bullet and get it over with or else I'll never fit in my stormtropper armour again!

Those recipes would certainly ease my craving for solid food, can you only use them after the first 2 weeks?
Smile. Its the second best thing you can do with your lips....

These recipes have been around various boards for a few of years now and grow each month as their members get more and more creative:D and I've never heard of the 2 week rule applying.

    But

They are unofficial recipes. If you are going to try them, cambridge recommend that you don't have more than one a day (as the cooking procedure can destroy some vits and minerals), but really, only use if desperate and heading for something more damaging.

BTW I believe they take time to perfect but can really help some people to stick to the diet.

    Oh...and I would skip the salt ;) That's a definite no-no.

    Hope that helps :)

    Hi
I bought some off ebay last week and i think its very nice you need a heaped spoon and it is like the thickness of porridge
I have tried fruits of the forest, vanilla and chocolate
The vanilla one i sprinkled cinnamon on the top and if you want you can crush some sweetners in when you put your packet in the bowl
I like it but it everyone has different tastes i paid £4.50 including p&p off ebay for 100g which is quite a lot of bowls of porridge you can get smaller amounts for cheaper
