Cambridge Diet

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of doing CD - it's against all my money saving priciples but think it will suit me.
I'm just wondering at what point you can have tetras and bars from? I don't mind mixing up one soup a day but tbh, tetra and bars would be much easier for breakfast and lunch.
Thanks in advance.Proud to be dealing with my debts

How is it against your 'money saving principles' exactly?
Do you normally live on fresh air?
How do you buy food without spending any money?
It costs me £35 per week to do the Cambridge diet which is a lot less than I spent on food-shopping prior to CD.
Tetras are allowed from Day 1, Bars not until Week 3

No of course I don't exist on air. I wouldn't need any diet if I did!
I only spend about £35-40 a week on food for my family of 3 - that's me, DH and DD (aged 4). So obviously my outgoings would go up following the CD, as I'd be spending £35 on just me - I can't feed DH and DD on a fiver a week!
It's not that I think it's overpriced or a con or anything else negative; it's just that I have spent so long reducing our outgoings, due to money problems, that it goes against the grain - It would feel like an extravagance and that is why I said it goes against my money saving principles. I wasn't having a dig at anyone - it was a genuine post, with a genuine question.Proud to be dealing with my debts

If you went onto WW you would spend way in excess of £40 a week with having to buy all the fresh fruit and vegetables, though.
LL is currently £66 per week0 -
I think I'll make an appointment with my local counsellor to find out more. Feel reassured knowing that I can have the tetras from day 1.
I have tried Lighter Life before the price went up - it was around £40 when I did it but I really hated the group therapy sessions and I didn't really like any of the mixes - the smell made me feel sick. I lasted about 2 weeks.
I already eat five a day, as does dh and dd. I save money on food using the old style boards, cooking from scratch etc, so don't feel that my food bill would go up if I tried to loose weight with a diet like ww - my weight has not been caused by a crappy diet in terms of meals - I eat three healthy meals a day, get enough fruit and veg, calcium, protein etc. It's just the times in between - I'm an emotional eater and I like food, so portion control can be an issue. So, like a lot of overweight people have food issues that I need to work through.
Thanks for your responses to my questions, much appreciated.
Cute 'n' Quirky - well done on your weight loss. How long has it taken you to loose this amount? Have you found it difficult? Have read some of the thread but with 71 pages, it would take me a while to read all of it.
I need to loose at least four stones (I'm 5'4'' and just shy of 14 stones) but would prefer five.

For some it is difficult to find the extra for the diet when you are used to spending this amount for the whole family. We as mums always have to think of the whole family and we always put ourselves last.
Why not try the 1200 cal programme you only have 2 packs of CD on that and you can then eat with the rest of the family using good healthy nutritious food. This will also help to teach good eating habits to your children, not saying that you don't now of course.
By following this you will bring the cost down to around £23 if you go to the 1500 cal plan it will half again as you will only have one pack daily.CWC to Maintainer of the Year 09CWC to Slimmer of the Year Semi-Finalist 09CWC to Inspiration Winner Slimmer of the Year 08Sponsor of the Year 07CWC 23 yrs - CCCC Member0 -

Hello,
Thank you for your response. I think to justify the expense I would need to do ss - I think I'd be more likely to cheat if I was having one meal a day.
I am in the process of meal planning for one month, just for DH and DD - so I can work out how much it would cost to feed them well, minus me.
I can find the money but I think you hit the nail on the head saying that as women, we often put ourselves last. I think for me, this is something that has to change. After all, it's only £35 a week for as long as it takes me to loose weight and get through maintenance. It's not as though I will be spending this money for ever.

As you said in your later post it isn't forever - make time for yourself and do it!!
It took me 32 weeks to lose 8 stones and 5lbs
Four stones in 12 weeks
Five stones in 15 weeks
So, whilst you may lose more or less than I did in that space of time, it gives you a rough guideline.
Cambridge say 1 stone per calendar month - but I lost 17lbs in my first week!
Good luck with your CDC and I hope to be hearing all about your weight loss here soon!

Well, I have just phoned my local CDC. I've left a message for a callback, so hoping to get started by the end of the week.
Thanks for all your responses. I will post again, once I start with my start weight and stats.
