I thought gagging was a natural reaction?? It's nothing like choking, they gag and spit out the food if it was too much, which is also different from sticking food up. I'm sure I might have read that babies fed pur!es are more likely to choke than BLW babies? Don't quote me on it, I could be wrong.

My LO also had severe reflux and I was never advised to wean early, I do feel like the only one though!

I believe the reason why TWed babies are at a greater risk of choking is because they learn to suck the smooth puree from the spoon to the back of their mouth, so when presented with a lumpy puree they proceed to suck it to the back of their mouth, without chewing first. How are they supposed to know that yesterday the puree was smooth and today there are a few lumps when all they see is a spoon flying towards them?

You're not alone, we didn't wean early either with our little vomit machine

Do what is best for you and your baby, another thing I found with one of mine was that they wanted to try and do it themselves at a young age.

I used to put the food and a spoon on the high chair tray and let them feed themselves, most of it went on them rather than in them but they seemed happier with feeding time when they had a little bit of control.

Another thing that you may like to try is something that a friend of mine had for her baby a few years ago it is called a MUNCHKIN Weaning Net it is a little net bag on a handle for baby to hold and you pop the food in to it and close it the baby can then munch on it and chomp the food down through the holes in the net but cant choke, this may be a good compromise between a baby that cant cope well with lumps and baby led weaning.

I saw them on Ebay in packs of two sorry don't know how to put up a link but if you type in weaning net they should come up.

I am sure that certain people on this thread will not approve and will be very vocal in that disapproval but do what is best for you and your baby.

I saw those in Sainsbobs didn't know what they were, shall look tomorrow when I go to town,
I wonder if I could put something cold in it, little lamb is struggling with the teething...

Mango is brilliant for teething. Cut the flesh from the stone and cut into fingers (give yoghurt too for dipping) and then give baby the mango stone to bite on to soothe the gums. ;)
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Babies need something hard to bite on to soothe the pain in their gums. It's all related to blood flow. A mango stone won't shatter like other fruit stones, and they generally like the taste. My son teethed his front 12 teeth that way with no calpol/nurofen or teething gel!

Anbesol liquid is apparently better for teething pain than teething gel too.

I use Anbesol, great stuff , I use it for my wisdom teeth too..
I try not to use calpol as they can get immune to it so save it for bad ills...

I get what your saying about the stone, but I can't be sure her sister wouldn't do the same, perhaps with a plum stone or something, I'd rather not...

You have some good ideas ...
