What 'little extra' do you always take on holiday?

I always pack a thinnish fleece throw in the side of our suitcase so that it's easily accessible. It has been handy so many times. Airport delays, wrap for poorly child, extra layer in rented cottage without enough bedding, cover for car seat while transporting sickly child (!) Handy over shoulders for cool nights while watching telly in poorly heated holiday accommodation, or even on the beach! Absolutely loads of uses. They wash and dry easily and even give your case contents a bit of protection!
I wondered if anyone else had some tips for things to pack that you find really useful and possibly money saving on holiday?
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

a citronella candle - great for first night on patio in Greece to tide us over until we have got our anti-mosquito lotion and bug blitzers routine sorted out

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wear apashmina in most months and a large silk scarf in very hot ones for the same reasons as op, but no children, just me and dh.

Things i do differently...baby or facial wipes are packed, which i never use at home, ifind them useful in transit. Also, :o patty liners. I don'tknow why but they make me feel fresher while travelling.

Otherwise i take as little as i can which is hard for me, and make sure everythi goes in hand luggage including a bag to come bag in the hold(although sometim es i buy cheap suitcases overseas for this purpose) to fill with goodies for my storecupboards or things i buy while away.
  • Lavender oil- great for sunburn, prickly heat, as an insect repellant, small cuts and insect bites, gets the children to sleep....
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Plasters, needle and cotton. I have never used them as my kids always point out, but they live in my suitcase pocket. Just in case!;)

  • Toilet roll, wipes and tampons. Paracetamol, throat sweets and tissues.
Eyedrops (OH & daughter seem to get an eye irritation with any change of scenery) pack of playing cards, notebook and pen.
Citronella candle and a lighter. Any wonder that my handbag is always stuffed? I usually wear a pashmina too.
  • a torch - I had a nasty experience once of a hotel evacuating us in the middle of the night after a fire in the control room which killed all the electrics. going down the stairwell in pitch darkness was scarey. Ever since I've always taken a small Maglite.

If going for more than a few days I take a little first aid kit. I also stick in one of those little LED torches but it must be said I haven't flown for a few years, might be different if I had limited luggage allowance.

Portable suitcase scales. They saved me a fortune over the years.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.
