Wow you put that whole thought together yourself? I never suggested otherwise, in part because the post I was responding to had nothing to do with it; but thanks for trying to take this off topic. The OP was suggesting that people should be motivated to take low wage jobs because 'some' people won't stay in low wage jobs forever. I was pointing out that many, in fact most, will which limits the motivational value.

It would not limit the motivational value if they were unable to get as much on benefits.

to be fair if you planned to have kids today , it wouldnt happen as the cost of bringing up is just to big of an expense to most people and that simply would deter most people , but we need children ,so on paper what you say is correct but as we see from people living longer the state pension age keeps going up , so the last thing to add to that is a shortage of contributers

We need well raised, intelligent, motivated children, at a cost of (say) £350,000 each - That is a mixture of housing, feeding, clothing educating, plus the mother's loss of earnings.
What we don't need is a bunch of NEETs, who cannot be bothered to get out of bed to train as "security guards" for the Group 4 Olympics squad.

......but if they stay on benefits they definitely will never get above subsistence level and find it difficult to be motivated to leave the house.
