This is the one I usually use and, yes, very glad to see the back of it. I'm sure Mr F will commit another faux pas before too long though. :rotfl:

Thanks so much for posting this, I am planning to make it for my birthday tea party am hosting this weekend :j. Quick question - I only have caster sugar, should that work ok instead of granulated?

    Hi MW

I'm sure I must have made it with caster sugar at some stage - I usually just use what I have in the cupboard.

    Have a lovely birthday tea

    Lots of decisions made:
    • Miss S Hen is going back for her final visit to the vet on Monday. She has been miserable today. The weather doesn't help and although she does have good days she is slowly declining. I think by Monday her quality of life will have deteriorated to the point where it's not fair on her to continue. I will make her life as happy as I can in the meantime.
    • I will be rehoming the other 4 Fortunate Hens. I worry about them constantly and get very stressed when they're ill. They will go to a friend who is a very experienced chicken keeper and has got one of my hens already (Miss G Hen started feather pecking so is fostered out). My friend has just got a huge, new coop and run and was just about to go out and buy some more hens to fill it. I know the Fortunate Hens will be very happy with her.
    • Mr F has settled on a 5 Series BMW  I am such a soft touch. It will cost us a lot tax wise but I know he has always wanted a nice car and he works so hard I think he deserves one. Strangely, the 5 Series works out cheaper than the 3 Series? Could have been worse - Mr F did want a Jag at one point :rotfl:
    • we are going to a surprise 50th birthday party in Poole at the end of the month. An old army chum of Mr F's.
    • we are going to a friends Halloween Party (me - Mexican Day of the Dead lady, Mr F - Uncle Fester).
All of the above have MS implications of course. Also on that front:
    • did budgeting for November (a bit early I know but we've got quite a few costs coming up and I wanted to make sure we could cover them)
    • a cupboard lunch
    • Waitr0$£ delivery arrived - £5.49 under budget but no free stuff this time
    • saved £248.16 on my home insurance. I'd negotiated £100 off a month ago with my current insurer but when the renewal notice turned up they'd upped the premium already and added a 25p per month charity donation. If I didn't want to make the donation I had to 'phone and let them know! I really object to this type of thing. Mr F and I donate to two charities every month, we volunteer our time for the Poppy collection and other events so I don't mind donating. It's just I should be able to choose which charities I support and my insurer should not be able to add unrelated costs to my premium without my agreement! Rant over. Anyhoo, Te$c0 came up trumps - same cover, much cheaper and I get a discount for using my Club Card.
    • Avi0$ wine arrived - just in time for the weekend :j
    • 90p PAD to the savings account
    • Tartiflette for supper tonight - had to come up with something other than pasta!
DSS1 will be arriving tomorrow evening. Just the hoovering and floor cleaning left to do. I always leave these to the last minute and wait until Mr F is out of the house - he thinks it's his job to make a mess just after I've cleaned :rotfl:

    Friday tomorrow!

Sorry about little hen fortune.... I don't blame you for rehousing the others, less stress equals happy fortune family.

ItA in regards to the charity thing, some restaurants do it too and it really annoys me. Like you I have a few ddm's and regularly sponsor... On my terms, not what someone else decides for me.

    New car sounds fab!

I would love to see the picture :rotfl:. The two of you, dressed as the above, getting into your new BMW 5 Series.

Well done on looking at November's budget already xx.

Years ago, I went to a Halloween party with my boyfriend of the time. I was dressed as a pumpkin (face paint and all) and he was dressed as a ghostly butler with a knife in his back. We drew up at the traffic lights next to a Police Car! I couldn't resist and gave them a ghastly leer - thankfully they laughed and we escaped arrest!

  • Mr F has gone out with DSS1 for a bit of green laning so I have the house all to myself. All the housework is up to date, the fire is roaring and I have sole control of the remote - bliss. Just settling down to watch Jurassic Park III so not much MS going on:
    • made Chorizo Pilaf and Winter Berry Trifle for dinner last night. DSS1 has a cold and couldn't eat much but I dosed him up with hot Rose Hip Syrup and Pink Ginger Cordial and he's now making up for it! Plenty of trifle left to last the weekend.
    • DSS1 came bearing gifts - 5 crates of ale! He works for a brewery and gets a monthly alcohol allowance :T
    • reconciled the bank accounts - all adding up
    • we'll be going out to eat tonight - hoping to find a pub with some live music
Now then, where was I.. oh yes... putting my feet up :)

    Happy weekend

  • Oh no poor Miss S (don't be too harsh on yourself though).

I do enjoy your thread... plenty of chicken and landy chat mixed in with MFness.

Fortune - thanks so much for the egg recipe! We had it for dinner tonight and we really enjoyed it... we will definitely be adding it the menu plan again soon, thanks x
  • Sadly, I didn't bring Miss S home from the vet today. Seeing her in the bright lights of the surgery made me realise just how poorly she was and the vet said it was unlikey that any further treatment would work. She had a very good life and I will always remember her little squeaky cluck and small nut brown eggs.

DSS1 went back home Sunday evening and Mr F left too for work. We had a lovely Sunday lunch before they went of Italian Meatballs with Garlic & Rosemary Roasties and vegetables, the remaining Winter Berry Trifle and some cheese and biscuits to finish. Such a treat to sit down to Sunday lunch as a family.

    MS:
    • the weekend's wine provided courtesy of Avi0$
    • dinner out on Saturday night - £59.15 for the three of us. That was for two courses and drinks so quite reasonable I thought
    • the vet bills came to about £100 in total - not that I resent a penny
    • Step class this morning
    • leftover Sunday lunch for dinner tonight as it's just me.
Mr F is home tomorrow just for the night. Hope he gets home early - his wife needs a big hug.
