    Mortgage figure looking good.
When might you be mortgage free do you think?

Hi there Beanielou - how are you?

we're not looking to pay off the mortgage completely but to reduce the monthly payments until they are teeny tiny. That's because we have a really good, flexible mortgage which we can increase/port to another property if we move or the land around our house comes up for sale. It's likely that one or the other will happen at some stage.

I don't have a specific end date in mind as my overpayments vary according to our other financial goals and commitments. For example, we paid off much more last year but this year we have my big birthday and a wedding to accommodate so will be overpaying less.

It's all about getting the balance right for me. Oh.. and keeping those lilies in check :rotfl:

  • Loved the mid year update. For homemade gifts, and taking account of your apple offer, one of mine is an apple and onion chutney. It needs three months to mature but is ok for up to 2 years. I'll post recipe here if you're interested. Another is red onion jam. No idea how long it lasts as here it is sometimes eaten from the pan. I also do a fudge tablet.

We are kindred spirits Greying - apart from the cooking... you can cook miles better than me... I want you to come and live with me and be my chef :)

Yes, Fortune, but you can paint better than me! We paint vastly different subject matter, but I have to be in the mood and have the mojo, whereas you can paint anything that someone supplies you with a piccy for! S.K.I.L.L :DRespect :D

Course i'll come and live with you - have you a corner of the garden to erect a miniscule eco hut? And could DP come too as me dishwasher? :)

Thanks Inod - everything sounds wonderful. I hadn't thought of fudge.

    Good luck with the German.

I did some German at school, but I struggled with the grammar. I can cope with masculine and feminine nouns.... But neuter was a step to far for me!

I stuck with French, as I found it a lot easier.

The last couple of days at work have been really full on. I'm exhausted.

    Money Making:
    • I took out 2 tours yesterday and 1 today. The hours were a little longer than expected so I'll be a bit better off as a result
    Money Saving:
    • Mr F and I went through TCB to sign up for the free £xp£rian trial. We'll get £5 each and I'll get a further £10 for recommending Mr F to TCB
    • A&C delivered my free veg box :D
    Home Maintenance/Improvement:
    • ordered some new crockery. Another plate cracked this week and we'll be eating of the table soon :rotfl:Went through QC as they had the best cashback rate this time.
    Health:
    • I've done lots and lots of walking at work and lost a couple of pounds as a result :T
    Lilies:
    • went out for supper at one of the work pubs. Used my 35% discount so not too much damage to the entertainment budget.
I can feel an early night coming on. Mr F is out at a concert and not expected home until late. I'm making the most of the remote in his absence :rotfl:

    Hope you're enjoying the weekend

  • Just a quick hello to say i'm up to page 8 of your diary! Now I know I'm years behind and look forward to catching up - but it strikes me that you are a good cook! Where do you get your ideas from?

I'm full of good intentions and have lots of cook books but I like/impressed by the way you use your left overs to turn them into something tasty for an evening meal - wish I had your talent :)

I tried freezing my left overs but the family wont eat them so I think I might need to be more creative :rotfl:

    Tips greatly appreciated!

Hi there Tcat. I use the BBCG00dF00d site a lot. You can put in your ingredients and search for recipes that will use them. The T£$co Recipe site is good too.

Do you think it's the term 'leftovers' that puts your family off. If you presented a meal from the freezer but didn't mention the word would they know?

I often turn my leftovers into an entirely different meal so a Chilli will become Fajitas or a Pasta Sauce a Lasagne.

It helps that there are only the two of us so leftovers from a meal cooked today can be kept in the fridge and reheated for tomorrow. Maybe you could try posting your leftovers on the Forum and see what creative ideas everyone has for converting them.

I do love cooking but have had my share of disasters. I nearly killed someone once with an Italian dessert

    Take care

  • Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will look at the sites and see what masterpiece i can create

You do have a point about the word "leftovers" - i'll carry on freezing what I can and keep mum :p What they dont know wont hurt them! Every penny I can save on shopping can go towards debt busting !

Hahaha - the dessert was literally "to die for" !!
